Hello Alaskan Farmers Market Community!

Our markets may have looked a bit different this year, but early reports are declaring the season a success, with many lessons learned. As your markets are winding down, we hope you'll take a moment to reflect and let us know how it went, by completed the survey below.

We have a few things in the works at AFMA:

  • We've partnered with the Alaska Food Policy Council to provide 20+ scholarships for farmers and market organizers, to attend their upcoming Alaska Food Festival and Conference, Nov. 6-7 (details below)

  • We're starting up our AFMA Community Chats this fall! Complete the survey below to let us know what you want to hear about and when

  • We'll be hosting a one-day AFMA summit this spring to kick off the next market season - stay tuned for details and let us know your thoughts, again, in the survey below

  • Meghan, our awesome AFMA intern, is compiling stories from around the state, chronicling COVID19 responses and experiences (or lack of them)
We hope everyone takes a moment to feel proud of the amazing work you are doing to support a stronger Alaskan local food system!

Welcome back to Meghan’s corner, news and updates from AFMA Coordinator Meghan Geary

2020 has been quite the year for us all and with the market season coming to a close, I’d like to say congratulations on making it through all the challenges that have been thrown your way! Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, market managers have put on successful markets across the state to secure fresh, quality food in every Alaskan home.

The Alaska Farmers Market Association is compiling stories of challenges and triumphs your markets faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we would love to hear from you!

Please email meghan@inletkeeper.org if you have a story to tell, and we will feature it on our website. Attach photos if you feel so inclined!

We can learn so much from each other to strengthen our food system and ensure that markets continue to thrive in the changing world, and we hope you will take the time to share how you adapted this year.
