Heal the Hood - #FridgeToFarm Fundraiser - Letter from KellyRecent Highlights - Volunteer OpportunitiesHow You Can Support

Join us at the Farm Park TOMORROW Saturday, October 10th for the second stop on the Heal the Hood tour! Heal the Hood is a collaborative event founded by Plant Powered Brothas and the Vegan Hood Chefs specifically for Black community members. There will be free food, a DJ, amazing speakers and a real talk about the health issues disproportionately impacting Black communities.

#FarmToFridge Virtual Fundraiser

In celebration of the next chapter in our work towards food justice, City Slicker Farms is hosting an online event for partners, supporters and community members. We will come together to honor the history of the organization, celebrate the exciting work we have been doing the last few months, and share our vision for the future.
The event will feature a cooking demonstration by Chef Ikeena Hardman, music by local artists, and a virtual tour of the Farm Park. Guests will receive a special thank you gift which includes a treat from the Farm Park, a recipe card, bandana and colored pencils for an art and memory activity we'll do together.

Dear Friend,

Time has been been a trip, hasn't it? So much has changed and yet in many ways things are still on pause.

As the fall season begins, I keep reminding myself of all there is to be grateful for and all that we need to keep fighting for. The work we do at CSF to grow food for and with the community is near the top of the list. I also deeply appreciate the time our neighbors, partners, gardeners and community leaders took to share feedback about our mission, values and vision for a more just and equitable food system and society.

We are in the final stages of updating our mission statement and have been moving forward on a new strategic plan that both grounds us in CSF's history and pushes us forward with renewed energy and focus. Our community members have played a vital role in shaping the new mission and vision, and we're so excited to unveil them next month.

I'm also incredibly grateful for the new connections we're making, such as with Cat and the Vegan Hood Chefs. Cat's vision and passion is so clear and inspiring and we're happy to host Heal the Hood at the Farm Park. (Following county health and safety protocols, of course.)

I look forward to continuing to grow and build with you. I hope to see you at our #FarmToFridge fundraiser next month!

In community,

Bringing Backyard Garden builds back (safely)

Though COVID and the smoke have been challenging, we have resumed garden repairs with our long-term gardeners and partner sites. Our goal is to keep raising funds and increasing capacity to build more gardens at senior centers and other community sites, as well as in the backyards of our West Oakland neighbors, and to repair older beds so our long-term gardeners can keep growing healthy food.

In August, we built and filled two new planter beds for Njelela, one of our longest running backyard gardeners, was part of the first BYG cohort over 15 years ago.

Support #FarmToFridge Fundraiser
We support more than 300 families and community organizations to increase their wellness and food security through backyard and community gardens, and the food that CSF staff and volunteers grow at the urban farm at the West Oakland Farm Park. The produce we grow is free for our community, with priority given to our low income, houseless and BIPOC neighbors. Our greenhouse supplies healthy, seasonal plant starts for these projects.
