The Amesbury Cultural Council's annual Open Studios weekend will look a little different this year. To conform with public health guidelines and social distancing practices, we're re-imagining the 2020 Open Studios weekend as a virtual event. Instead of organizing in-person gatherings and trolley tours, we're coming up with alternative ways to promote artists and the sale of their art, as well as highlight arts and culture in our region. And this year, artist registration will be free.

Even as a virtual event, we want the spirit of Open Studios to remain, and your participation is a big part of that. As we prepare for this new style of event, we would love your input on what it might look like. Please click here to take our 2020 Open Studios survey.

We need you!

Featured Artist of the Month Courtney Jordan!
Courtney Jordan is a painter and photographer whose work explores the continually changing landscape of the built environment. With a strong focus on the urban-industrial, Jordan uses digital photography as a means to capture often overlooked elements of infrastructure and architecture that comprise the ever-changing world in which we live. Using these photographs as reference material for her paintings, Jordan invents her own architectural realities and imagined structures to create a link between our present experience and the continually changing environment of the man-made world. Jordan holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her studio is located in Amesbury where she currently resides. See more of her work at www.courtneyjordan.net
Every quarter, the ACC sponsors an art exhibit at Amesbury City Hall. Through the end of September, you can visit the Aperture on Amesbury photo show when you have an appointment at City Hall, or during our next "open viewing" evening -- Thursday, Sept. 17th.

The photographs were taken by five photographers (Bonnie Brady, Bonnie Lucas, Courtney Jordan, and Madalene Murphy) during a tour of two old mill buildings in Amesbury. Each artist shares their point of view in an artist statement displayed along with their work.

Viewing by appointment only. Email amesburycc@gmail.com to reserve a 1/2 hour time slot (between 5 and 7 pm). There will be a minimum of 6 people in attendance; masks are required.

CALLING ALL LOCAL ARTISTS/ARTISANS!
We're planning a featured local artist section for future newsletters and social media promotions. If you're interested in promoting yourself, send us a few photos of your work (and yourself too if you'd like) plus a brief write-up of who you are and what you do. Send to: info@amesburyculturalcouncil.org.
