PROF MTHEMBU SPEAKS ON THE ESSENCE OF STEWARDSHIP AT DUT

Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Thandwa Mthembu delivered a video message to the DUT community on Monday, 5 October 2020, on the essence of Stewardship, saying that it is the most foundational, and sits right at the core of the institution’s DNA.

Prof Mthembu stressed that Stewardship is the bedrock of everything that the university seeks to achieve by 2030 and that undergirds the DUT way. He stressed that on the auspicious occasion of the State of the University Address in February this year, he pointed out that stewardship is ultimately about what the fundamentals of DUT’s DNA are.

DUT ALUMNUS SHOWCASES HIS UNIQUE, COMMERCIAL SUMMER RANGE WITH PICK N PAY CLOTHING

“I am very happy to have been awarded such a rare opportunity to collaborate with Pick n Pay Clothing, I’m overwhelmed,” said the euphoric Katekani Moreku.

After completing his National Diploma in Fashion and Textiles at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2019, the former alumnus has grown in leaps and bounds in the fashion arena. He has now collaborated with the renowned Pick n Pay clothing brand in South Africa, making DUT proud of his fashion achievement.

Commenting on his fashion success, DUT’s Fashion and Textiles department have said they are so proud of him and his accomplishments, as he has always been a hard working individual very dedicated to his craft.

RADIODUT STATION MANAGER TO RELEASE HIS FOURTH SINGLE

RadioDUT Station Manager and Public Relations Alumnus, Sibusiso “JSbu” Nxumalo will be releasing his fourth single titled: Abazali on Friday, 23 October 2020.

Nxumalo who is also a radio presenter on the afternoon show “Drive” on one of KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest commercial radio stations, East Coast Radio is a man of many talents, as he is also a musician, MC and a DJ that specialises in Afro House, Afro Pop and Afro Tech.

Speaking about his music journey, JSbu said it started about four years ago when he had an opportunity to work in the studio with talented musicians such as Holly Ray and Colours of Sound.

DUT DONATES 5000 FACE MASKS TO VARIOUS SCHOOLS IN KWAZULU-NATAL AND EASTERN CAPE

To provide support to the learners during the tough times of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Department of Student Recruitment at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently donated 5000 face masks to 12 high schools in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

In KwaZulu-Natal the department made this generous donation to five schools which are the top five feeder schools in DUT’s 2020 enrolment. These top five feeder schools that received the face masks are: JG Zuma High School at Bester area in Inanda, Velabahleke High School in Umlazi, Sinethezekile Combined School in Jozini, Sithengile Secondary School in Clermont and Sibusisiwe High School in Umbumbulu.

SURE WEBINAR TO ENHANCE SCHOLARLY EXCELLENCE IN UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND TEACHING

Supporting Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE), a new focus of the Research, Innovation and Engagement (RIE) 2020 Extended Annual Performance Plan (EAPP 2020), aims to enhance scholarly excellence in undergraduate research and teaching.  

Undergraduate research, a ‘high-impact practice’, provides multiple benefits such as cultivating learning by inquiry, promoting critical thinking and engaged scholarship, which, in concert, has the potential to enhance student retention, completion and quality of graduates.  Consequently, a series of webinars have been launched to promote the objectives of SURE.
