Virtual Sunday School Begins This Sunday
for Grades 3, 4, and 5

Attention, all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! Sunday School is starting up again! I have missed seeing you each week, missed watching the entertaining Whirl videos with you, and missed having great discussions during our class time. Please join me for Virtual Sunday School weekly starting on Sunday, October 11, from 9:30 am to 10:15 am. Use this Google Meet Link.

I will be emailing each of your parents an invitation to the weekly Meet so we can hang out, watch our Whirl video, and talk about the Bible lesson and how it connects to our lives.

Any questions, email me at Pop345SundaySchool.Mrs.O@gmail.com

Can't wait to see you!!!!

Closet Cause 2020 – Different Plan, Same Cause
And the Plan Worked!

What a wonderful response to our alternate approach for Closet Cause rummage sale this year. Thank you to the many members who contributed so generously to the support of our world-wide mission partners. We have exceeded our goal of $50,000.

The Global Mission team has started the allocation process to distribute the proceeds to 11 partners. The current breakdown for 2020 contributions is:
  • FundaMaya (Guatemala)   $4000
  • Advocacy Project (Uganda)   $6000
  • Grain of Rice (Kenya)  $8000
  • Rio Negro (Guatemala)   $4250
  • Axayactl Women’s Center (Nicaragua)  $5000
  • Haiti Nursing Foundation (Haiti)   $8000
  • Grace Ministries-Ile-a Vache (Haiti)   $3000
  • Good Will Family Haiti (Haiti)  $6000
  • ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response  $5000
  • Luther World Relief  $1000
  • Kiva Micro Loans  $500
Total to be distributed:   $50,750

See the church website for more information about these partners.

The group is hopeful that we can conduct a more traditional Closet Cause next year along with the fund-raising effort that has worked so well this year. We have also begun the process of reviewing two additional partners to add to our global community.

With Gratitude,

Prince of Peace Global Mission Ministry Group

Kitchen Kits for LSS CHOICES

We are seeking financial donations for Lutheran Social Services CHOICES Kitchen Kits, and the need is greater than ever.

Kitchen Kits for LSS CHOICES is a ministry designed to help survivors of domestic violence as they leave the CHOICES shelter and transition into their new lives. By supplying families with Housewarming Kitchen Kits, we can help them to take a first step onto a new path by providing some of the essential basic needs to get them started.

Any donation amount is appreciated and will be used to purchase additional kits. You can mail or drop off your check to the church mailbox with the notation “Kitchen Kits for LSS Choices” in the memo line. You may also donate through Breeze

We are so incredibly grateful for your generosity.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

LSS CHOICES is presenting Choose Hope, a fundraising campaign that includes a 30-minute special on 10TV airing tonight, Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. Tune in to learn more about CHOICES and hear firsthand from survivors and local community leaders on how CHOICES’ services are vital to our community and how you can help.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

to all who donated disposable diapers to the Layettes for Little Ones Ministry during the month of September. We received enough diapers for 75 baby kits! And, thank you for the generous cash donations! As of the end of September, we have distributed 88 kits throughout Ohio.

Bible for Our Second Graders

Every year we pass out Bibles to our Second Grade students during our Reformation Service. This year, with the pandemic upon us, we have come up with a different distribution mode.

On Sunday, October 25, beginning at 12:30 pm, Pastor Jim and I will be passing out Bibles to our second graders in a “Drive By Bible Party.”  We will be in the front (or east) lot. We ask second grade families should drive in with masks on, and we will give your second grader a new Bible with a “goody bag” of Bible resource and say a quick prayer.

Normally, we would love to spend a day celebrating God’s word, but these are difficult times, and yet we still want to give our second graders their Bibles.

Just email me to let me know if you can participate.

We look forward to blessing you with the Gift of God’s Word!

Pastor John

As we continue to explore the complex issues surrounding immigration in our country, the AMMPARO committee would like to share an upcoming program with you. This event is hosted by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), The Ohio State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and The Ohio Immigrant Alliance.

Ohio Immigrants and Refugees
Lived Experiences and Mobilizing for Change

This virtual conference includes four sessions. We are most excited to join the session Education and Activism to Support Students from Immigrant Families – Education challenges and barriers faced by immigrants; innovative approaches; activism in schools, which is on October 16 from 10:00 am - noon.

This should be an opportunity for us to gain understanding of what it’s like to be an immigrant student in central Ohio and give us ideas on how we can encourage these children and young adults as they navigate the frequently confusing waters of adapting to life in America.

For more information or to join the AMMPARO committee, contact John Neugebauer.

First English Meal
Thursday, October 15

Prince of Peace will provide the evening meal at First English Lutheran Church in Columbus on Thursday, October 15. We are serving take-out meals that allow patrons to remain at a safe distance. Recently the Thursday evening meals have been serving approximately 70 people.

If you would like to support this bi-monthly meal, donations should designate “First English Ministry” and can be made through Breeze.

Women's Wednesday Morning Bible Study

The Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study continues having socially distanced weekly meetings from 9:45-11:00 am.

All women are asked to bring their own copy of Unafraid: Living with Hope and Courage in Uncertain Times by Adam Hamilton. It is easy to purchase online, and the public library has copies available.

On October 21, we will start a 3-week discussion series based on Mark 12:31. Love your neighbor as yourself. What can we do to better follow this commandment? We will use different resources each week to better define race relations and loving everyone as our ourselves.

Please bring your own chair, mask, and coffee. If you would like to attend, please contact Janice Joos for more information.
Sign Up for College Connections

Register by this Saturday!

College Connections is a free ministry at Prince of Peace where college students near and far receive care packages and cards to remind them of their home church family. So far, 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and what better way to raise the spirits of our college students than to receive a care package!

You must sign up by this Saturday, October 10 to receive a package. The goal is for students to receive their care packages by Halloween.

Former College Connections students need to re-register every year.

Donations for College Connections

If you are interested in donating goodies or school supplies (items must fit in an 8x8x8 inch box), please drop off items to the "Drop-Off & Pick-Up" Cabinet at the front entrance. Financial donations are also welcome! Please write ‘College Connections’ in the check memo line or contribute online via Breeze.

Covid-19 Prevention
The Basics of Facial Coverings

We know that Covid-19 is spread through respiratory droplets and among the best preventive measures is properly wearing a facial covering.

Did you know that these factors can affect the effectiveness of a mask?

  • Wearing the mask properly
  • Fabric from which a mask is made
  • Maintenance

In the attached document you’ll find more helpful information plus things to avoid and general precautions.

Be well. God loves you.
