Hope-Full

So far this year has been a year of hope. I hoped that we would have a reopening plan that the department of health would approve. I hoped that we would have families that were confident in our ability to keep their children safe in person. I had hoped that we would at least make it two weeks before having to implement remote learning. Throughout July and August I spent many moments privately praying for guidance and understanding and hoping that we would be able to be reunited at school so that we could learn and grow together.

It occurred to me just this week how clearly my hopes and prayers had been answered. This week we bebopped and hand jived our way through the 50th day of school! Fifty days of math practice. Fifty days of learning to become better readers. Most importantly, fifty days of being together, under one roof hearing of God's promises. I have been blessed this year, in this position to grow in my appreciation for so many facets of life at Central. We have staff that have found ways to keep the ball rolling, even when we have numerous restrictions. We have kids who love coming to school so much that 40 junior high students willingly helped spread 50 yards of mulch after school last week. We have parents and families that are dedicated to Central enough that we met our Walk-a-thon goal even through a pandemic. We have churches that love Central enough that their pastors are here daily to support us. There are just not enough words to express our appreciation that we can walk in this journey together. To God be the Glory. Always and Forever.

Scholastic Book Fair

Hello families! The CLS Book Fair is starting on Monday! Your child will get to preview the books on Monday during class and will be able to purchase books during their class library time later in the week. You can also preview online from home!
Students need to have their money in order to go down to shop and we're offering an online e-wallet option to avoid lost money.
The fair will also be open during Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday.
Thank you for supporting your child's reading future and Central Lutheran School!

School Office Hours

Coats for Kids

Costume Day!

Since we did an awesome job of reaching our goal for the Walk a Thon, students earned a costume day on Wednesday, November 4th!

Students are invited to wear a MERRY, not scary costume to school. This is not a dress down day, students who decide not to participate should be dressed according to regular school dress code. If you have a question concerning your child’s costume, please email their teacher. Teachers will have the final say if costumes are appropriate or not.

Please be sure to read through the Costume Day Guidelines carefully:
  • All students participating should come to school dressed in their costumes.
  • Students who wish to participate must be dressed in appropriate costumes, costumes that are creative, costumes that are in good taste, and costumes that do not hurt.
  • Costumes may not have parts that interfere with learning. This means no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision, prevent sitting at desks, or prevent participation in physical education class. Costumes must not obstruct movement in the hallways.
  • Only face masks that are used to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are permitted.  No full face masks are allowed.
  • Make-up or face paint are permitted.
  • No pretend “prop” weapons such as guns, knives or swords.
  • Costumes may not be offensive or inappropriate in any way.

SO...WHAT'S UP?

Let Us Show You!

We are certainly missing having the smiling faces of our parents and MANY volunteers in the building each day, and we're sure that you miss coming in! We don't want you to miss out on all of the fun, so each week we will share a snapshot from one of our classrooms. Up this week:

Mrs. White's First Grade

Hello from Mrs. Peter's 7th Graders!
As we are quickly becoming the oldest students in the building, we are taking time to learn and start planning for our future. Aside from our normal classes we have had the opportunity to dig deeper into our interests and talents to research careers we are considering for our future with our Career Study class.

On Wednesdays, we have also been able to learn some important skills. We kicked off the year making "Charity Bears" where we learned how to sew felt stuffed animals. We learned fine tuning on computer skills, by creating interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories, and now we are focusing on team work skills through things like Escape puzzles.

CLS Building Campaign Update

As we enter the Thanksgiving and Advent seasons we reflect on the blessings in our lives, remember that the season is a time of sharing and acknowledging to ourselves how fortunate we are to have a family of Christian brothers and sisters, supportive churches to worship, and strong Pastors to lead and teach us.  Let's not forget that Central Lutheran School is on the list of Blessings we all share. The building is complete, and now it is up to each of us as members of the CLS Association to finish our duties and see that the debt is retired.

The outstanding loan balance as of 9/30/2020 was $1,649,947.92 which is unchanged from last month.
The construction loan rate did come down from 4.125% to 3.75% which will save roughly $6K in interest annually. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT THE CONSTRUCTION LOAN COMES DUE IN SEPTEMBER 2021. Once the loan comes due, the loan will need to be refinanced. The terms of refinancing are unknown at this time but will likely result in a fixed monthly payment of both principal and interest that will reduce the flexibility of the monthly payment we have under the present financial arrangement.

The goal of the school board and building campaign committee upon origination of the project and loan was to have the note paid off in full by this past month. That goal has not been reached, however by the GRACE of GOD, CLS was fortunate enough to have sufficient funds early on in the project as to not have to enact the loan for nearly a year, thus giving Central Lutheran School until September 2021 for the construction loan. This is truly a blessing!

Now is the time for action! Pray for the Central Lutheran School, our churches, and our church families, and pray for action from each one of us. Pray that we each have the courage to meet our pledge and for each of us to share our blessings, large or small, with our churches and Central Lutheran School. As the prophet Malachi wrote (Malachi 3:10), “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”

To contribute to the campaign please reach out to Central Lutheran directly or a board member. Contributions can be mailed directly to the school at 900 Green Street, New Haven IN 46774, with building campaign written on the memo line.
