November Update from AAA Play
It is an exciting time as we see Victoria and Metro-Melbourne easing out of restrictions in time for the warmer weather! This month we have lots of new virtual online activities and challenges, as well as great ways to get out and get active in a COVID safe way.
If you know of any awesome resources or programs that are commencing either outdoors or online and accessible for people to do in their homes, please email request@aaavic.org.au and we can spread the word, to make sure everyone has plenty to keep them active and engaged.

Looking back: Gateways Support Services lays out its vision for inclusion
Gateway Support Services new home has a new name!
Gateways Support Services staff and board took time considering a name to best capture their vision for the sprawling North Geelong headquarters. It is a vision firmly focused on enabling positive lives and community engagement, making Geelong Community PLACE the perfect name to describe what they stand for, their strategic direction for the next three years and their intentions for this inclusive, multi-purpose, community-focused destination.

Looking forward: DOC Football Academy - Special Needs Soccer Program
DOC's program is designed for children with special needs. They have been running their program with great success since 2012. They challenge participants and give them lots of exercises, so get them involved now. Suitable for boys and girls from 6 years onwards.

Scope - Doing activities together
Doing activities together is better than facing a challenge alone. Feeling safe and being safe is a priority for everyone at the moment, but it’s also important to find ways to have fun and connect with your community! With input from Scope customers and staff, they’ve created some COVID-19 resources to give you some inspiration on different activities to do during this time.

Geelong Softball
Softball Australia’s national participation program, Softball Batter Up, is designed to be fun, flexible and engaging for children from kindergarten age to Year 6, focusing on fun activities while learning basic throwing, catching and striking skills.

Autism Swim Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre
At Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre Swim School, learning to be safe around water is an important life skill that they take seriously for infants, children and adults. They ensure their programs are fun and effective. They focus on building confidence, stroke technique and help you prepare for emergency situations in the water, regardless of your age and ability.

Dance & Roll
Dance & Roll continues with the online dance sessions. This Girl Can Vic and VicHealth are supporting the Zumba sessions. The sessions are for people with physical disabilities, every Thursday at 6:00pm. The Term 5 timetable is available now!

The Carer Experience survey
To be responsive to the need of carers in the City of Casey area, they are asking carers to complete the Carer Experience survey, to better understand local carer needs to ensure future planning and service provision meets the needs of carers and importantly support the journey of the carer.

TenPin a hit in online disabilities sport series
Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) recently presented a Bowl at Home live webinar as part of Disabilities Sport and Recreation ‘Online Disabilities Sport Series’.
TBA’s Emily Rennes presented the live inclusion webinar to a number of eager participants on Wednesday September 16th.
Now they are sharing videos so that we can keep up our skills at home.

How I Roll - an anthem for women in wheelchair sport
Wheelchair Sports NSW recently released a song called ‘How I Roll’, sung by Casey Donovan.The song is designed to show women and girls with a disability what’s possible and build more role models.
‘How I Roll’ features six athletes with a disability and all proceeds from the sale of the song go to providing more opportunities for girls and women to get involved in the life-changing experience of wheelchair sport.

2020 VDSR Award finalists announced
DSR are extremely excited to announce the finalists of our 2020 Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards.
With a 33% increase in nominations this year – particularly for Initiative of the Year, which tripled in submissions – selecting the finalists was a competitive and difficult task for their panel of 13 independent judges.

People Outdoors Come & Try Day
People Outdoors are running a come and try day at Log Cabin Camp at Creswick. The day is for families and potential campers to come and see what People Outdoors is all about. The event is free and will conclude with a free BBQ lunch for those who would like to stay for a bite to eat.

AWETISM 2020 Virtual Expo
This year’s Expo will be an all-day, virtual event that is free and open to all ages worldwide. Participants will be able to choose where and how they engage on the day. They have 50 Autistic young people from across Australia who will be presenting on their passions, talents and insights.
