Students are masked and physically distanced, yet spiritually engaged, at Cru’s outdoor weekly gathering.

God is answering your prayers!
He keeps changing students’ lives despite the pandemic.

Hungry to connect, hundreds of new students came by Cru’s outdoor, masked, and physically distant events during fall welcome. Cru staff and students have shared the gospel individually with 100 of those students so far.

One freshman Matthew told us that the spring quarantine canceled his baseball season and got him thinking about heaven and hell. A Cru Junior Jacob had a gospel appointment with Matthew, and he gave his life to Christ!  WMU senior Quinn also came to Christ after all university classes went online in the Spring. He said that Cru is the first group of Christians he has been a part of since following Jesus.

During a gospel appointment with Cru staff Kelli, a freshman girl opened up, sharing her story of identifying as bisexual and being kicked out of her house by her parents during high school. She said, “I was considering giving up completely on faith,” but now talking to Kelli she wants to give faith another chance. She’s not ready to accept Christ yet, but she wants to keep meeting with Kelli. She said she wants to overcome the doubts that prevent her from inviting Jesus to be on the throne of her life.

Cru intern Kait talked to a student who is a member of a major sorority at WMU. The girl said that the Greek party lifestyle has left her feeling so “empty.” She wants to get serious about growing in Christ. They met with another girl from her sorority to talk about starting up a weekly Bible discussion, possibly at their sorority house!

Doing ministry in this pandemic has been complicated and draining at times. But by God’s grace, we have had many opportunities to connect students to the everlasting hope that Christ offers. Thank you for partnering with us to point students to Jesus!

Reaching out to new students with a QR Code interest survey. 800+ students filled out the survey. Cru students and staff have spend the last 6 weeks meeting individually with those who expressed interest in Christ.

Before the semester started, students gathered for an outdoor "Restart Retreat," beginning the year with vision, prayer, and preparation for the first week of outreach on campus!

Who's out in our driveway?  A leadership development group met outside our house around a firepit. We've needed to be creative finding ways to still meet in this season.
Our Fall Day Getaway was unique in that it wasn’t a full weekend, but God used this day to build friendships, to help us all to grow in our identity in Jesus, and to remember that he is with us. Of the over 80 students who attended 23 were freshmen, and 43 were first-timers!

Please pray...

-For not-yet-Christian students involved in Cru, including Logan and Yeager, to trust Christ!

-For student-led Community Groups to build lasting connections and raise up more disciples.

-For the physical health AND mental health of students at WMU and nearby colleges. You can feel the loneliness on campus as you talk to students.

-For God to use WMU Philosophy professor Dr. Tim McGrew's message on "Why does a loving God allow suffering?" at Thursday Cru this week. This is a question that many people are wrestling with in this pandemic season. You can even join us if you would like at wmucru.com/live Thursday 10/29 at 8:08pm.

Family Update...
Just as this all started to feel normal, virtual parent-teacher conferences reminded us that these are abnormal times. The kids’ highlights lately: going to the zoo, camping at a nearby park, jumping in leaves, joining in on workout videos with mommy.

Thank you for continuing to believe that the Gospel changes lives on university campuses and beyond!
