October 2020
I hope you all are healthy and dealing as best you can with the new normal presented to us by COVID-19.  As disrupting as it has been, it wasn’t able to spoil the beauty of fall in New England, nor keep the thermometer from slipping into the thirties the past few nights.

It’s become a favorite autumn tradition of mine to drive from the coast of Maine, over the winding Kancamagus Highway, through New Hampshire’s White Mountains each October.  I used to do this often in my youth on my old Triumph Motorcycle, but in recent years am content to shift through the six gears of a little car I keep in Maine.  The reward at the end of the four-hour drive is always dinner with two great friends at a scenic little spot on the lovely lake where "On Golden Pond" was filmed.  If you have seen the movie, you may recognize the scenery of Squam Lake.
BACK TO KEY WEST!

I’ll be returning to Key West on October 26, to perform periodic shows on the outdoor stage at the open-air Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, through the spring of 2021.  Please check my website to find my performance schedule.

In my 31 years of living and spending time in Key West, I’ve always had a general idea of what to expect when I arrive on the zany island city after a six-month absence.  This year I’m not so sure.

I do know I‘m excited to be back performing on the Smokin’ Tuna Stage, October 26 through November 4, during what would have normally been the time of the Meeting of the Minds convention.  That is officially cancelled, but I understand lots of songwriters, bands and festival goers from years past are still making the trip south.
Consequently, the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon has a full week of entertainment (which is listed below) and I just confirmed that Gabriel Donohue will be flying down to join me on lap steel, electric guitar and piano.  Fred Quistgard will also be sitting in several nights on percussion.
I haven’t performed in Key West since the pandemic hit in March, but was fortunate to play enough outdoor shows on the road throughout the summer to keep the wolves away.  However, I’m fully aware how difficult it continues to be for artists performing in places like Key West and other spots where bars and music venues are practicing social distancing and not able to operate at full capacity.    Fortunately, all the Smokin’ Tuna performers have the benefit of the Tuna Cam and have been able to subsidize their performance fees by accepting tips and donations via PayPal and Venmo.

I will be doing the same, so if you are watching us play a few songs from your living room and want to throw a few bucks in the virtual tip jar, we would all appreciate it.  In fact, I’m going to do my best to get to as many requests each night as possible, and the easiest way to reach me with your request is to simply text me 305-304-6819 with your name and your request.

My PayPal and Venmo accounts are both scott@scottkirby.com

Thanks for listening!
