Wednesday Magazine
St John's East Dulwich
Wednesday 21 October 2020

Dear Friends

Although we have not been sending out regular Wednesday emails since we have started working on The Gander, our regular monthly magazine, there are a few things coming up that I thought you might like to know about.

There is an important and interesting event tomorrow organised by MEACC called the 'Joys and Challenges of Leadership'. We also have details about the next guest speaker at our Coffee Morning as well as information about our Alls Souls Service on 1st Nombember at 6pm.

With all best wishes
Raymond

MEACC Event
Tomorrow the Woolwich Episcopal Area MEACC group is hosting an event called 'The Joys and Challenges of Leadership'. This is on Zoom a7 7:30pm. To book you place please email

The flyer for the event is below and you you will see that the event has been organised because when it comes to leadership in the UK, it is recognised that the BAME community is negatively affected, including in the church. The speakers at the event are confirmed as:
  • Canon Dr Olu Adams, Vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church Peckham & Canon at Southwark Cathedral.
  • Revd Dr Chigor Chike, National Advisor Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns.
  • Revd Dr Sharon Prentis, Intercultural Enabler & Dean of Black and Minority Ethnic Affairs at Birmingham University.
These respected Black leaders will discuss the issue of BAME people being negatively affected when it comes to leadership, how this can be overcome and how we can find a way forward.

All Souls - 1 November at 6pm

Join us for our All Souls Service, when we give thanks for those whom we love but see no longer. With prayer, readings and music, in this service we bring our sense of grief and loss into the gentle and loving presence of God.

This will be a ticketed event, you can book through Eventbrite, the link is here. If online booking is difficult for you, please get in touch with our Administrator by email, or email Raymond or Gill.

If you are coming to the service and you would like to hear the name of your departed loved ones read out aloud, you need to call or email the clergy or Administrator with their names. (We are not able to have a physical sign up sheet at the back of church in the usual way this year.)

Coffee Morning
Buskers playing trumpet and accordion with silly hats
On 28 October Coffee Morning will feature a talk titled 'Busking Busking' which will be given by Prof John Wood. John Wood is emeritus professor of design at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

We're really looking forward to hearing what Prof Wood has to say about 'busking busking'; the photo shows John at an art performance project in Liverpool. The talk will start at 12 noon but do drop in any time from 11:30am, it will be good to see you. The link to join is here.

And Finally...
With Halloween round the corner, many of us who are missing in person contact will be able to identify with this image!
