Dear ACP Volunteers:
Presently we have several volunteers helping to keep the ACP open. Most mornings are covered, although we would welcome someone to relieve Lorne of Tuesday mornings. We now have Monday and Wednesday afternoons covered, but could really use some help with Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  And remember, you don't have to do EVERY week. I can schedule 2 shifts a month, or whatever you might wish. You can always specify a preference that suits your life.

Please contact me by email or phone if you would be interested in covering some of these shifts. Thank you - it will be very much appreciated!

Upcoming Classes

Gourd Art Studio Time  and Classes

There are eight sessions posted for studio time.  Visit artisanscentre.ca for details and to register online.  In order to observe current rules for physical distancing we can host 6 members each session.

Beginner Gourd Art
Oct 19 Class - 10:30 - 3:30

Basic safety of working with gourds and care of tools  will be taught, so you will be able to use these tools on your own. You will sand and paint the inside of your gourd before using Adirondack dyes to give a colourful surface to the outside of your gourd. A glued leather rim will complete your gourd. Once you have completed this course you will be ready to apply a variety of techniques and express your creativity on a gourd. This class is a requirement for many other workshops in Gourd Art.

Community Cultural Centre Discussions

Talks continue with respect to next steps in moving toward the creation of a community cultural centre in Peterborough.  Another example of a successful centre is the Assembly Hall in south Etobicoke.  The facility opened its doors June 2001 and is owned and operated by City of Toronto, Arts Services unit.  Thanks to one of our readers for identifying this example.

https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/history-art-culture/cultural-centres-galleries/assembly-hall/

"This beautifully restored building was renovated to blend its history with an innovative modern design. The Hall is dedicated to nurturing and celebrating creativity, and arts-focused cultural events and performances. We’re also a favorite and flexible location for meetings, weddings and community celebrations."

Note:  Past issues of this ACP Newsletter identified a number of other centres around the province/country that had already been created and were thriving.  Links to their webpages are listed below.

Looking ahead to February 2021
