Hey y'all,

We all know that Western North Carolina is known for its more artistic leanings, but it wasn't until we started planning this month's issue that I realized just how many formal art institutions exist in these mountains. It's not just pop-up fairs and tapestry-decked shops (though we love those, too!), there are plenty of museums, exhibitions, and studios across the region where you can check out (and sometimes take home) fine art.

In this week's newsletter exclusive, we're sharing ten of our favorite destinations across the mountains, from Boone to Blowing Rock, where you can refine your arts palate (or, in this case, palette 🎨).

Till next week,

Emily Glaser, Managing Editor

  • Back to the Grind ☕️ GRIND, Asheville's first Black-owned coffee shop, is now open in the River Arts District. Grind is part coffee house, part networking space, and part community gathering place intended to bring people together, from the business mogul and political leader to the skater and aspiring hip-hop artist. They're open daily from 7 a.m.–10 p.m., host events like Oct. 31's Early Morning Fall Festival, and even offer co-working style memberships.
  • Healthier Communities ❤️  Dogwood Health Trust will provide $5 million per year for five years to fund programs and services dedicated to addressing substance use disorder for residents of WNC. Approximately 52,000 people in WNC struggle with substance use disorder and almost half of adults in the region report that their lives have been negatively affected by substance misuse.
