Bringing the Future Back to Democracy
Future visions are crucial for democracies. In the past several years our focus on the status quo has held us back. The online conference INNOCRACY is giving the world of tomorrow a platform – from 28 to 30 October.

Legal Opinion

The Federal Government should pass a Democracy Building Law

After the far-right attacks in the cities of Hanau and Halle, the German Federal Government is under pressure to act. The high-ranking “Cabinet Committee against Right-Wing Extremism” is determining possible constitutional options to introduce a Democracy Building Law in the current legislation period. However, the government-internal negotiations have come to a halt because the coalition could not agree on the constitutional basis of such a law. To support finding a solution, we have asked Professor Christoph Möllers, one of the most prominent constitutional lawyers in the country, to draft a legal opinion. In his text, he demonstrates how a Federal Democracy Building Law could be implemented.
