Productive Uses of Energy in Humanitarian Contexts |
Productive uses of energy (PUE) is vital for improving the livelihood and economic opportunities of communities affected by conflict and crisis. This webinar will provide an overview of different types of PUE activities in displacement settings, followed by two case studies from Kenya and Rwanda.
SELCO Foundation will highlight the different PUE activities along with practical recommendations on implementing PUE programs. Practical Action and Energy for Impact will then share their experiences and lessons learned from a PUE entrepreneurship training program for refugees in Rwanda. SNV Kenya will discuss their market-based approach for developing sustainable energy value chains and boosting private sector engagement in Kenya. The ESDS project is one of the four components of the BMZ commissioned Global Programme “Support to UNHCR in the implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) in the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus”. It focuses on the sustainable energy sector and seeks to remedy the lack of sustainable energy supply to enhance the self-reliance of communities in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. Read more... |
