CAUT Will Seek to Intervene in Supreme Court Decision to Hear Copyright Appeals (CAUT, October 16)

New Roadmap Lays Out Path for OpenDOAR as an International, Community-Driven Repository Directory (COAR, October 19)
"COAR, and Jisc’s OpenDOAR service which is a global directory of academic open access repositories, today released a joint roadmap for the further development for OpenDOAR as an international, community-driven repository directory. The roadmap for sustainability and community governance for OpenDOAR lays out the steps for expanding OpenDOAR’s service and its functionalities over the coming 12 months." Read more

New PLOS Pricing Test Could Signal End of Scientists Paying to Publish Free Papers (J. Brainard, Science Magazine, October 15)
One of PLOS' "new options shifts the cost of publishing open-access (OA) articles in its two most selective journals to institutions, charging them a fixed annual fee; any researcher at that institution could then publish in the PLOS journals at no additional charge." Read more

Student and Faculty Voices on the Emergency Shift to Remote Learning: An Exploratory Study at a Large Urban Institution (Christy McDaniel & Jenna Joo, ITHAKA S+R, October 22)
This report "present findings and recommendations gleaned from a small exploratory qualitative study conducted shortly after the conclusion of the spring 2020 term, which aimed to understand how select undergraduate students and faculty experienced the shift to emergency remote learning at a large, multi-campus, and diverse higher education system in an urban, metropolitan city in the US." Read more
