Help Lead the Trunk or Treat!

This Sunday from 4-5pm in the church parking lot we're hosting a walk through Trunk or Treat event for the children of the church and over twenty families are planning to participate, arriving at different times throughout the hour.  We need high school and middle school youth (and their families are welcome too!) to help in the following ways (from a safe distance):

Please sign up to help with this event by using the Trunk or Treat Leader SignUpGenius

As usual we will be following our church's Guidelines for Resuming In Person Youth Group Activities

  1. In person youth group activities are held outside and ordinarily limited to one hour per event.
  2. Non-contact temperature checks of all participants are taken upon arrival by a designated youth leader.  Those with a temperature of 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit or less are allowed to participate.
  3. All participants are required to wear masks.  Masks can only be removed to eat or drink (and with adherence to social distancing requirements of maintaining a distance of six feet away from anyone outside one’s family).
  4. Physical contact is prohibited (high fives, fist bumps, hugs, etc.).
  5. Those who are sick, especially vulnerable to COVID-19, or uncomfortable with in person activities should inform a youth leader and only participate in virtual youth group activities.

Youth Group Calendar Announced!

Check out our November and December Youth Group Calendar which includes a drive-in movie and a s'mores event.  The schedule is planned by our Youth Leadership Team, approved by our Christian Education Committee, and includes a balance of the five areas of youth ministry:  Fellowship, Service, Congregational Care, Worship, and Discussion/Bible Study.  Special thanks to our Youth Leadership Team which met virtually in August and brainstormed ways to continue ministry in the midst of a pandemic.  First (Scots) Youth Leadership Team 2020-2021:  Hugh Buxton, Julian Buxton, Graham Cosby, Grayson Glenn, Walker Glenn, Callie Harper, Mills Jordan, Will LeClercq, Hewitt McKenzie, Sarah McLean, Will Siegling, Adair Smith, Pinckney Smith, Hammond Unger, Manning Unger, and Porter Yount.

Sunday School Update

High School Sunday School (9:45-10:45am):  This group is meeting in the Kirk House High School Room socially distanced with masks and finishing their study based on the movie 42.  Questions about this class?  Contact Amy Shubert, Chantal Byrne, or Hayley Carter.  Text @fshsss to the number 81010 to receive class reminders and updates.

Middle School Sunday School (9:45-10:05am):  Join Steve & Jenks Bailey and Betsy Martin via Zoom for a fun and enriching Sunday school class.  This twenty-minute virtual format was designed based on the feedback that you (our 6th and 7th grade families) offered last month.  If you need the Zoom link or if you have any questions about this class, please contact:   Steve Bailey, Jenks Bailey and Betsy Martin.

We’re Sending Care Packages!

On Sunday, November 1 from 5-6pm the high school and middle school youth will be preparing care packages for our college and boarding school students.  Are you or is someone in your family in boarding school, college, or graduate school this year? If so, please send Susan Cocallas (scocallas@first-scots.org) your/his/her mailing address by Wednesday, October 28. We will be sending care packages and mailings throughout the year and want to make sure all of these students are included, whether they are on campus or distance learning from home.

Can You Host?

We recently held backyard events for both the middle and high school youth groups.  These types of events are great because it allows in-person fun while also enabling us to maintain social distancing guidelines.  We have several more backyard events coming up and are looking for families that would be willing to host us.  Our next backyard events are on Sunday, November 8 and December 6 from 5-6pm.  If you’d like to volunteer to help, please contact James Rogers (to host the high school youth) or Megan Boucher (to host the middle school youth).  Thanks for considering this opportunity!
