Immigrants are Essential
Izuba Gamaliel Musafiri at Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton

Earlier this fall, HIPC launched the Essential Immigrants campaign, a social media video series highlighting the role of immigrant professionals during COVID-19. The series features six essential workers of different professional and ethnic backgrounds, each serving Hamilton in different ways during the pandemic.

Below is a letter from Izuba Musafiri, a Registered Nurse in Hamilton.

To wrap up this series, HIPC will be hosting a virtual event celebrating the work and life of these individuals. Stay tuned!

You can watch Izuba's interview as well as the entire series here.

Community Events
HIPC teamed up with several community organizations to host the annual Multicultural Wellness Fair, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day on October 10. Thank you to the 200+ Hamiltonians who joined this virtual event. This year's event featured a diverse group of presenters and contributors who addressed many sensitive issues facing our community, including social and racial injustice, children's mental health, and coping mechanisms to help individuals manage stressors during these uncertain times.

The event is available for viewing on Facebook.
No Hate In The Hammer launched its monthly speaker series "Together: Building Solidarity In Hamilton." This month, NHH hosted Amani Williams from March For Black Lives Hamilton, Cameron Kroetsch from Pride Hamilton, Evan Balgord from the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, and Michelle Penny from Righting Relations. This event's theme was 'community building as a response to hate'.

NHH has four pillars: education, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and  advocacy. The guests explained the different hate groups that are present in Canada and in Hamilton. Panelists shared their advocacy experiences as well as the motivations that keep them focused on the work they are doing for our community despite ongoing challenges.

HIPC is a member of the No Hate in the Hammer coalition.

This event is available for viewing on YouTube.
