We will be closed on Thursday, November 26th for Thanksgiving.
We are excited to introduce the new and improved Johnston Partnership!

We have left Suite D and moved to Suite C, next to the post office. Our new space is nearly double the square footage as our previous space, and this is the 1st time the Johnston Partnership has had a space designed specifically for our needs! Clients will enter on the east side of the building and donors will come to a door on the west side.

We are currently allowing a limited number of clients in at a time for the Food Pantry. Our Clothing Room is still closed for shopping, but can be accessed by order forms. We hope to have a Open House/Grand Opening as soon as is possible so the community can see our new space!

The only clothing donations we are taking right now are seasonal clothing items for children through adult. No baby clothing, no athletic wear, no shorts and t-shirts, sandals and swimwear at this time. No household items or other bedding and towels, etc. Check out this video for information on where to drop off your donations for the Johnston Partnership!

Winter coats!! Boots!! Snowpants!! Did you know that we give away almost 600 of these items each fall/winter? Please think of us when cleaning out your closets. We accept all sizes of winter gear, plus gloves, scarves and hats - worthy of a sledding day at recess or standing out at a bus stop - during our operating hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 9am-1pm

COMMUNITY HARVEST DINNER: NOVEMBER 7!

The Membership and Evangelism Committee of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston will be holding their Community Harvest Dinner on Saturday, November 7 from 5:00-7:00pm as a take-out only event! Individuals can sign up online, by calling the office, or by mailing in their reservations no later than October 31. All payments must be made in advance. The suggested donation will be $10. All proceeds will benefit CROSS Outreach and the Johnston Partnership. The menu will include turkey (your choice of white, dark, or mixed), mashed potatoes with gravy on the side, stuffing, green beans, and pumpkin bars. Masked and gloved servers will take the dinners to the parking lot, where cars, previously assigned a 15-minute pickup window, will be waiting.
St Paul is located at 6426 Merle Hay Road in Johnston, IA

We are planning to hand out over 400 turkeys this November to our clients! Can you help us out with this? Please consider a donation here!

Due to the pandemic, the JOHNSTON GIVES program will look a little different this year. We are providing families with a gift card to either Fareway or Wal-Mart, to use for holiday meal or gift purchases.  Last year we helped almost 450
students in the Johnston Community School District have a brighter holiday. We hope to collect $18,000 to give these kids something to look forward to as 2020 draws to a close. Money can be donated in person (during our operating hours), mailed to our PO Box 975 in Johnston, or given online at our website. There's no amount too small, as it all goes to kids right here in our community!
Thanks Lola's Fine Hot Sauce for your donation! Tasty, local and much appreciated!

BOARD MEMBER HIGHLIGHT

Peggy Martin

Tell me a little about yourself .
I have 2 children, 2 bonus kids, and 3 grandkids. I’m fortunate that they are all close by, as are a large extended family. This fall I’ve been the teaching assistant to my 2nd grade grandson for Johnston hybrid school. I worked for Iowa State University for 38 years with assignments in NW Iowa and on campus both in administration and in nutrition programming. I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher, quilter, and gardener. I like to travel domestically and internationally and I try to spend a few months in Arizona each winter.

Why did you become involved in the Johnston Partnership, and what has your involvement looked like over time?
For about 20 years, I managed federal programs that taught low-income families how to use their food money for better nutrition. When I discovered the Johnston Food Pantry, I started helping distribute food which brought me in direct contact with the families we serve. As a board member I have helped with the newsletter, back to school programs, food pantry intake on Saturdays. I’m currently secretary of the board.

What makes the Johnston Partnership mission meaningful to you?
Johnston is home to some of the wealthiest families in Iowa. At the same time, we have local families who are struggling to pay their rent, buy food and pay for their medicines. I believe in the passage, “To whom much is given, much will be required”. The board and volunteers who make our program run have a deep commitment to treating those in need with respect, listening to needs and responding generously.
