UPDATE TO TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Further to changes announced by the Tasmanian Government today, the TTA has received an update from Biosecurity Tasmania about the changes in requirements for entry into Tasmania by transport workers from 26 October 2020.

The previous ‘affected area or premises’ category is being replaced with three new categories of risk for different areas- ‘high’, ‘medium’ and ‘low’. More information about the new risk categories is at
https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/travellers-and-visitors/coming-to-tasmania

For Australian jurisdictions, NSW is categorised as ‘medium risk’ and Victoria as ‘high risk’. Freight workers from these areas remain exempt from quarantine but will be required to continue to register their travel through the existing G2G system.

All other Australian jurisdictions are categorised as ‘low risk’, and all travellers from these areas will use the new Tas e-travel system.  A link to the Tas e-travel site is https://arrivals.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx

Here is the advice TTA received -

Dear Maritime and Freight Operators,

With the easing of Tasmanian border restrictions scheduled to take place from Monday 26 October 2020, there have also been some updates to border entry requirements, and the introduction of a new entry system for travellers coming from identified ‘low risk’ areas – Tas e-Travel.  The G2G PASS system remains in place for travellers coming from identified ‘medium risk’ and ‘high risk’ areas.

What does this mean for commercial maritime and freight operators? Crew disembarking in Tasmania should have a valid G2G PASS QR code OR valid Tas e-Travel QR code.

For crew who have been in ‘medium risk’ and/or ‘high risk’ areas in the past 14 days prior to boarding the vessel (other than transiting directly to a point of departure) – please continue to use the G2G PASS system.

For crew who have been in ‘low risk’ areas prior to boarding the vessel OR have been isolating onboard vessels for >14 days – please use Tas e-Travel.
If a Biosecurity Tasmania Officer is not present when crew members are disembarking, then a copy of the G2G PASS QR code or Tas e-Travel QR code must be sent, by email to Biosecurity Tasmania. The QR code can be sent to biosecurity.bookings@dpipwe.tas.gov.au with the subject of the email titled as QR code for processing. The email must be sent at the time when the crew disembark the vessel.
Tas e-Travel will be available later today via https://coronavirus.tas.gov.au/ and registrations will be accepted a maximum of 3 days prior to arrival.

If crew have already applied via G2G for travel from a ‘low risk’ area from 26 October 2020, they should resubmit the travel details via Tas E-Travel when the new system goes live.

Please continue to check the Tasmanian coronavirus website (https://coronavirus.tas.gov.au/) regularly for updates in terms of ‘low’, ‘medium’ and ‘high’ risk areas and changing border requirements and restrictions.  For any questions relating to Tasmanian travel please contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

CHANGES FOR BONNEY ENERGY

As industry members may be aware, Caltex Australia Pty Ltd has started work on transitioning to Ampol Australia Pty Ltd. Subsequently, with the Caltas name being so closely aligned to Caltex we have made the decision to refresh our brand in line with these changes.

The late Byron Lloyd Bonney founded his Northern Tasmanian fuel and lubricants distribution business in 1978 with Golden Fleece. The business evolved over the years and arrived where it sits today, with the name Caltas Pty Ltd under the banner of the Bonney Group of Companies.

Caltas / Bonney Group expanded its distribution of Caltex fuels and lubricants into Victoria in 2012. With this move Bonney Energy was born and the business has continued to experience significant growth in the Victorian and Tasmanian markets.

Sadly, Byron Bonney passed away in 2013, and with great foresight ensured that his businesses would continue to operate. Now, with the rebranding to Bonney Energy, Byron’s name will remain as the cornerstone of our fuel distribution businesses, ensuring his history and contribution to the transport and fuel and lubricant distribution sector is celebrated and remembered well into the future.

What does this mean?
Other than a change of name and logo – it’s still the same people and the same solid foundation!
We will continue to meet and exceed your fuel and lubricant supply requirements throughout Tasmania, and the same friendly faces will continue to provide you with the same great service.
You will notice a staged replacement of all Caltas branding throughout our network, our website, card branding, and some other exciting initiatives which will enhance our offer to you in the future.

CHANGES TO TAX TABLES

14 October 2020: The Australian Government has introduced personal income tax cuts that apply from 1 July 2020.

Updated tax tables are now available for you to reflect the tax cuts in employee’s take-home pay.

You must make sure you are withholding the correct amount from salary or wages paid to your employees for pay runs processed in your system from 16 November onwards.

Payroll software providers will be updating software to implement these tax rate changes. Some payroll software providers may take longer to update their software. Your software provider will keep you updated on these changes.

You don't need to make any other adjustments or refunds.

Any ‘over-withholding’ that occurred prior to updating your payroll software or processes will be included in your employee’s income tax assessment at the end of the year.

Road Worker Safety - tragedy in Victoria

A road worker died after being struck by a car in Trawalla, Victoria earlier this week (21/10).

It’s believed the roadworker was in the process of setting up for traffic control duties on the onramp to the Western Highway about 7.20 am.  As the 59-year-old Creswick man was at his stationary utility, which was parked in the emergency lane, he was struck by an eastbound Toyota utility.  The driver of the Toyota, a 39-year-old Lucas man, stopped and rendered assistance however the worker died at the scene.
This is a tragedy and TTA urges all drivers to drive safely, slow down, and obey all signs for the safety of road workers.
