Duisburg confirmed as host of World ParaVolley Men’s Paralympic Qualifier

World ParaVolley and NPC Germany are pleased to announce that the World ParaVolley Men’s Paralympic Qualifier will be held in the city of Duisburg, Germany from 15 to 19 February 2021.

“We are not only looking forward to organising the qualification tournament in the province of North Rhine-Westphalia, a place big in sitting volleyball, we also see a great sporting opportunity,” said NPC Germany president Friedhelm Julius Beucher.

“Our team has the clear goal of securing the last slot for the Paralympics in Tokyo on home soil and with that realising their dream of participating in the Games. We will do everything in our preparations to ensure the best conditions and to be a good host, especially in these difficult times. In doing so, we also want to send a signal and spread confidence regarding staging sports events. Before the Paralympics in Rio, our team also managed to qualify in North Rhine-Westphalia. We see this as a good omen.

The eligible teams may come from Germany, United States, Canada, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Ukraine, as these are the teams that formally entered the postponed Men’s Paralympic Qualifier in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA from March 15-20.

“Our great appreciation must be expressed to NPC Germany for agreeing to host this important event in what is and will be, difficult circumstances,” said World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner OAM.

“I am very confident that NPC Germany will deliver a  fantastic event for the teams that is well-run and safe.  The major outcome will be that the final men’s team will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games – and this will be based on merit.”

The tournament winner earns the spot into the eight-team Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games field. Already qualified are hosts Japan, 2018 World Championship winners Iran and runners-up Bosnia and Herzegovina, and zonal qualified teams China, Russia, Brazil and Egypt.
