FACEBOOK, YouTube & ROKU (BOXCAST)
OCTOBER 24, 2020
STREAMING OPTIONS

We have divided our Sabbath Services into two (2) live streams. Our Sabbath School stream begins at 10:15 AM and goes until 11:00 AM. The second stream (church) begins at 11:15. Note the two options as listed above.

Both streams can be found on Facebook, YouTube and Roku. It can also be viewed via mobile app (
https:knoxvillefirstsda.com) "live stream."  or here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRLMwqZGBMvD1ukcJMeK_2g/live

For those watching via Roku, your best option for a clear bright picture is: Search for "Boxcast" add that channel to your lineup. Once loaded, select the Boxcast channel, then type in (search) Knoxville First, then select the Sabbath School or Church stream as shown above.
This new arrangement will begin on Sabbath, October 17, and will help to ensure that no program overlaps with another as far as time. Also, the reason why the Adult S.S. class starts at 10:15am instead of 10am is to provide time for musicians to have sound checks in the sanctuary before the worship service. Since the early service will be held in the sanctuary from 9:00am to 9:50am, the 25-minute time space will allow for a sound check before the Adult S.S. sanctuary class starts at 10:15am.

Regarding the early worship service in the church sanctuary, our board also voted that this will be a service that requires each participant/attendee to wear a mask. Some church members feel more comfortable participating in a mask-required worship service, and the board felt it would be appropriate to provide an option for members and families who are in this category. The regular worship service at 11:15am will continue to be a mask-optional service. We are hoping that these two options will provide our church members and their families with the choice to attend the service in which they would feel most comfortable. Here is an order of service for both worship services:

MASKS - A DIVIDING FACTOR?
just my perspective - Stan Wolcott

It's an uncomfortable position that we face, one that seems to be dividing our church and for me a factor that has much more significance. COVID-19 has brought about drastic changes in our world and in our church. One of the greatest changes seems to be our relationship with others. Here's where masks come in. Have you noticed around town and in our church how "unfriendly" a mask can make you.

As most of you know, we rent our church to Basswood Baptist church. Last Sunday I found it necessary to briefly visit the Basswood Church service via the balcony. To my pleasant surprise, I noted that our sanctuary and balcony was completely filled with not a mask in sight. No social distancing, no masks, just friendly faces and friendly people singing with beautiful harmony. What a warm and welcoming community.

As I look at our (Knoxville First SDA) and our reaction to COVID-19, it troubles me greatly. A week or so ago we had friends visiting (fleeing) from California looking for a new place to live and a new church to belong to. They were searching for friendliness and a comfortable place to call home. Did they find it here? No! It seems that through COVID-19 perhaps we as Knoxville First SDA have become lazy. Are we providing a welcoming atmosphere and a friendly face for everyone? Maybe we should take a look and see what we can do! (Our friends attended another church and found it most welcoming)

It's time we as a church community show ourselves to be a welcoming church. We can start by having greeters at our doors (Yes even now!) to truly welcome visitors as well as members.

Perhaps we could also look at a more friendly way to provide water - maybe a glass fronted mini-fridge? How about providing everyone a bulletin by actually handing it to them - gloved if you want? Let's think of ways to be friendly. Is there something we can do in the AV/communications department? How about providing a meal for visitors? There are probably many more ways we can think of, let us know if you think of something. (knoxvillefirstsda@gmail.com) Today more than ever, people are looking for friendly faces, let's be that friendly face by providing a welcoming atmosphere, (even providing temporary masks to parishioners if needed), but most of all, an encouraging and friendly place to worship.

According to non-political credible sources, there's no health need for a pianist, song leader or person speaking from the front to wear a mask, it simply creates a psychological barrier with the congregation. If you are healthy participate. If you are sick, stay at home. (Some context below)

WHO (World Health Organization)
"There is limited evidence that wearing a medical mask by healthy individuals in the households or among contacts of a sick patient, or among attendees of mass gatherings may be beneficial as a preventive measure"
