As everyone will be aware, we are all living under Tier 2 social distancing restrictions.

What this reinforces is the need for those who are running physical activity sessions to follow their relevant National Governing Body or Sport England guidance to minimise the risk of spreading the virus in our district.

Here is the most recent general guidance from Bradford Council - if you've not done so already there is the option to receive email updates from the Council.

A toolkit has also been created for those who are working to get people active informally or formally. Please consider using the key messages within the pack to talk to your partners and communities about what is allowed, and encourage people to stay active in whatever way is right for them.
If you would like further guidance on what the restrictions mean for your activity or would like to learn more about funding that is available to help, contact Gillian Brown at Yorkshire Sport Foundation: gillian.brown@yorkshiresport.org

Cycling skills

As the move to make the district more 'active travel' friendly continues, there will be adults and children alike who may want to cycle but not yet have the confidence.

CityConnect have teamed up with local cycle coach Emily at ReadySteadyPedal to produce videos for those who would benefit from learning or re-learning cycling skills: www.cyclecityconnect.co.uk/get-cycling/family-cycling/

Adult, socially distanced, cycling lessons are also on offer through CityConnect: www.cyclecityconnect.co.uk/get-cycling/adult-cycle-training/

JU:MP update

Despite the challenges we have all been facing, JU:MP has continued to make progress and, with the support and hard work of our partner organisations, have pushed forward with plans and helped families to keep moving as much as possible within the COVID-19 restrictions.

We are delighted to announce that our proposal to Sport England for the Core Capacity and Evaluation funding was successful and JU:MP has been granted £2.4 million of National Lottery funding for the period until 2025. Further funding for the 2021 - 2024 Accelerator Phase will be applied for in December.

What's been happening, in brief:

Ways to stay active!

Whilst the district remains cautious to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) there are many people who will feel more comfortable staying at home to exercise. It's even more important that these people are reminded that there are different things they can do to keep as active as they can be.

The Stay Active section of our website includes ways to be active across all of our life course groups.

We've placed these on the website so you can copy and paste them to use in your email newsletters, social media posts; however you communicate with your audiences.

Take a look and let us know if you know of an activity that you think should be included, particularly if it's from a local organisation or group.

Here are some activities that are on the webpage:
Living Streets - New resources and fun activities released weekly to encourage walking
Staying Steady - Evidenced based seated and standing exercises to improve strength and balance.
Kala Sangam - 'Morning Break' micro dance routines. These videos are specifically designed to help people working from home stretch out their shoulders and upper body
There are also a number of online resources which also have printed options available for you to access to send to people you are in contact with.

Active at home - Living Well have created a localised version of a Public Health England booklet aimed at helping older adults to stay fit and well and able to exercise safely at home.

We Are Undefeatable - The national campaign We Are Undefeatable has launched a number of online resources to support people living with health conditions to keep active: The Facebook messenger chatbot as well as Five in Five customisable workouts, which can be accessed through social media or the We Are Undefeatable website.

JU:MP@Home -  Our Sport England local delivery pilot, JU:MP has a website with ways to help keep your young ones active whilst at home through games. Visit www.jumpathome.org to start playing today!

If you would like a stock of printed booklets or JU:MP@Home activity calendars to distribute, please confirm the quantity you need and also supply a full delivery address including contact name and telephone number to nicola.marklew@bthft.nhs.uk or call 07855 115 066.

Police Intelligence Portal

The Partnership Intelligence Portal has been developed by the police to give groups and organisations across the district a way to submit intelligence to the heart of West Yorkshire Police through a web-based system.
