The Center for Natural Lands Management, the non-profit that oversees the Headlands Conservation areas, have opened its nature trail on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Expect a modified one-way path starting at the trail entrance accessed from Selva Road heading to the City’s Nature Interpretive Center.

County: According to the State, it now won’t be until the County is in Yellow, or fourth tier – Minimal – before Disneyland and other large theme parks can open. Orange County has remained in Red Tier, or second tier – Substantial – for six weeks. Once cleared to open, the Park will have a limited capacity of 25% and will be required to implement an advanced ticket sales system. The continued closure of Disneyland has had devastating impacts to local hotels, restaurants and businesses, not to mention the thousands of Disney employees who were laid off. The Disneyland Resort alone contributes $8.5 billion a year to Southern California’s economy, and pre-pandemic employed 31,000 workers. California Attractions and Parks Association, who represent theme parks across the state, is interested in keeping the dialog going to open the parks safely, but is also looking into legal action. Orange County does not expect to reach the fourth, or Yellow Tier anytime soon.
Outdoor sports venues and stadiums can welcome fans when the County reaches the third, or Orange Tier – Moderate - at 20% capacity. Facilities such as Angel’s Stadium would be allowed to welcome fans, while Honda Center cannot.
Currently, per the State’s updated metrics, OC is at 4.6 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents, and has a testing positivity rate of 3.2%. Orange County’s cases per 100,000 needs to be 1-3.9 cases per 100,000 residents to move into the Orange Tier. Counties must remain in a tier for at least three weeks and qualify for the next tier for two weeks to advance. Tiers can’t be skipped and counties that slip in any key metrics could return to a stricter tier. This week Riverside County moved back to Purple Tier from Red Tier. The Orange County Health Care Agency is sponsoring free flu vaccine events to ensure everyone has access to flu shots. Advance registration is required. Registration is underway for the next event this Saturday, October 24 at City of Anaheim- Municipal Government Anaheim Convention Center, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Drive-thru only, no walk-up. The County of Orange Health Care Agency has asked for our help in conducting a survey of attitudes toward vaccination for Covid-19, which will be of great assistance to them in planning for distribution of the vaccine when it becomes available. State: While professional sports and outdoor stadium guidance was released this week, youth or adult recreational, amateur or semi-pro sporting competitions guidance was not.
COVID-19 has taken a great toll on the State’s tourism economy. California is experiencing huge loses as visitor spending is down 55%. According to Visit California, the State’s tourism authority, the impact is 9 times worse than after the 9/11 attacks. Business meetings and groups is an important segment of business for Dana Point’s local resorts and hotels. Every State but California has developed guidance to safely allow these activities with modifications and reduced capacities.
Governor Newsom has developed his own panel of experts to evaluate COVID-19 vaccines prior to distribution. The panel includes members from top California universities and medical providers, along with state and local public health officials.
