The countdown is on.

As we inch closer to November 3, we wanted to remind you to check out our Reframe Election 2020 Guide.

The guide focuses on using clear language to prepare audiences for a very novel November and framing stories to expect the unexpected. We hope this guide helps reporters and producers focus on maximizing audience comprehension during what is sure to be an overwhelming few weeks.

Some reminders:
  • Emphasize (through repetition and tone) that a slower ballot count is not an inherently corrupt ballot count.
  • If you haven't called a race yet, explain why. Don't let false, early claims of victory dominate the narrative.
  • Frame election interference as problems for a fair, democratic election, not "wins" and "losses" for a particular party.

We've also created a few Twitter graphics, below, that we hope you'll share to spread the word.

We'll continue updating this guide as news develops and we hope you'll share it with your newsrooms and colleagues. We appreciate your help and support, and welcome your feedback — just reply to this email or drop a note to aubrey@resolvephilly.org.

Stay safe!
