Heroes’ Voices has touched the lives of thousands of veterans over the last seven years. This year we have had to find new and creative ways to help our Veterans.
Since the onset of the coronavirus in the spring, we have had to draw down our in-person programming for veterans:
- We suspended all of our Singing and Poetry workshops at veterans’ facilities across northern California, including VA campuses and clinics, the California Veteran’s Home, the San Francisco County Jail, and San Quentin State Prison.
- We put a hold on our “Guitar Corps” program, where we had provided guitar lessons and free guitars to hundreds of veterans.
But we could not leave the vets high and dry!
Heroes’ Voices now offers “Guitar Corps” classes for veterans via Zoom every Wednesday and Friday. While we miss the collegiality of our in-person guitar classes, we now gather veterans from all over the country for the sessions. Veterans are joining us from Tennessee, Texas, and Arizona as well as from all around California.
Some of our new “Guitar Corps” vets are struggling with PTSD and other battle related wounds, and one of our new participants is a recipient of the Silver Star.
COVID has not stopped us from providing free guitars to Veterans! We have made “House Call” deliveries to nearby vets, and we have shipped new guitars to vets as far away as Texas.
