Southminster Family,

Last night our sister Jean Collier passed away peacefully with her son David by her side. Jean was a longtime member of Southminster and an active part of our congregation for many years- she will be deeply missed.

We plan to have a funeral service here at Southminster on Friday afternoon. Visitation in the sanctuary at 1pm, followed by the service at 2pm.

This will be our first funeral since we have reopened the church for in-person worship, so you may be wondering about the logistics. We will abide by the same safety precautions as we do on Sundays- masks are required, handwashing encouraged, we will ask everyone to be socially distanced.

But we WILL be able to celebrate Jean's life, listen to her favorite hymns being played, and share our hope in the promise of the resurrection! The service will also be live-streamed online just like our Sunday service- so I encourage any of you who would be considered high risk to watch it online.

During the visitation we will ask you to wait in a carefully distanced line to offer your condolences to David, and find a seat afterwards in order to give everyone space to safely share their support. It will be even harder than usual to refrain from offering hugs of comfort. The best safety recommendations still advise against close physical contact, so please ask permission from others before offering an embrace.

Thank you for your prayers.

In Christ's Peace,

Rev. Caitlin Deyerle
