Teaching & Learning Community of Practice Session

Join us for “Assignments Across Disciplines: A Digital Assignment Resource and Community of Practice,” and hear from Professors Andrea Williams and Erin Vearncombe about the open-access digital resource Assignments Across Disciplines, which supports instructors in developing and showcasing innovative assignments at the University of Toronto.

Reminder: Connaught New Researcher Award Editorial Support

To increase your chances of success in the fall 2020 Connaught New Researcher Award competition, the Arts & Science Research Office is making editorial review available. For applications in the Life or Physical Sciences, please contact Funded Research Officer, Monica Caverson. For applications in the Humanities and Social Sciences, please contact Funded Research Officer, Suzanne Jaeger.

  • A&S editorial review deadline: accepting drafts until November 23, 2020
  • U of T MRA approval deadline: December 3, 2020

Preparing Your Nomination: RSC College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists

This workshop is designed for Early Career Researchers (less than 15 years since receiving PhD or equivalent) interested in preparing a nomination for the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College, drawing upon expertise from RSC peer reviewers, academic leaders and other experts. Speakers will discuss how to identify nominators, secure strong and letters of support, the nomination process, and the critical importance of developing strong impact statements.

Date: October 29, 2020, 10:30–11:30am

Fall Reading Week Mental Health Workshops

For many, Fall Reading Week offers a slight reprieve from our hectic schedules and a chance to slow things down, practice some self-care and even engage in some new learning. Faculty, staff, graduate students and postdocs are invited to register for the series of Arts & Science mental health offerings including Identify-Assist-Refer, suicide alertness training and a lunch-time self-care webinar.

Funding Opportunity and Call for New Proposals — Postsecondary Education Fund for Aboriginal Learners

The Office of Indigenous Initiatives has additional funding available through the Postsecondary Education Fund for Aboriginal Learners (PEFAL). All units with Indigenous projects, programs and other initiatives that fell within the scope of the 2019-20 PEFAL Guidelines, are encouraged to apply for this unique funding opportunity. Proposals are due November 6, 2020.

Call for Proposals Extended — International Student Experience Fund

The International Student Experience Fund (ISEF) call for proposals has been extended. The ISEF supports curricular and co-curricular initiatives that enhance the experience of international students; foster intercultural and international-to-domestic student, staff and faculty engagement; and internationalize the U of T student experience. ISEF supports two streams of activities: Seed ($5,000-$15,000 per year) and Impact ($15,000-$60,000 per year). Seed applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. Impact letters of intent are now due on November 27, 2020.

U of T's COVID-19 Readiness Plan Approved by the Government of Canada

U of T is among several designated learning institutions to have their COVID-19 readiness plans approved by the federal government. This approval allows the University to welcome international students to Canada. This move ends the restriction for international students that only allowed those with study permits issued on or before March 18, 2020 to enter the country unless they were from the United States.

Launch of Let’s Talk International Partnerships Fireside Chats

The Office of the Vice-President, International is launching a series of monthly drop-in sessions to support international partnerships. Faculty who are interested in engaging with international partners, learning more about funding opportunities to support global partnerships and how to enhance global teaching strategies are welcome to attend. Fall session dates include: October 29, November 26 and December 17, 2020.
