Welcome to our Autumn newsletter

Wow, we did it!

We are breathing a sigh of relief that we managed to hold any physical Meet the Parents events at all this season. Had we tried to run them a couple of weeks later, we would have been scuppered by the new restrictions on mixing in indoor public spaces. As it was, the existing Covid-19 regulations made for some very strange-looking school halls. They looked more like Japanese exam halls than our usual friendly MTP events. Here’s a selection of ‘spaced out’ images from a very peculiar MTP 2020 series.

Going Virtual

The pandemic meant that we had to put on some of our events virtually for the first time ever. Our first zoom was a bit nerve-racking beforehand, as we linked up with all of our many panellists from their individual homes, but it went really smoothly in the end. We actually found that panellists were more relaxed speaking from comfy sofas, and the questions that our audience put in the Q and A box were often really challenging – perhaps because they were anonymous.  The downside was that parents couldn’t go up and chat to panellists more privately afterwards, and we couldn’t hand out as many of our cherished feedback forms as usual. But we definitely think there are some advantages to a ‘blended’ approach in the future.
Camden Secondary Schools Film
While we were organising our Meet the Parents events, our sister organisation – Schools on Screen – was putting together a film about what makes Camden’s secondaries so special. You can watch it here:

Admissions Advice
For those of you who are applying for secondary schools by October 31st this year, we know what a daunting application it can be. So we wanted to remind you that we have our own, in-house free adviser on how the whole process works. Just email us at info@meettheparents if you would like us to put you in touch with Anne.
Anne has been a parent governor at Hampstead School since 2013. She has a son In Year 11 and her daughter attended Hampstead from year 7 through to sixth form.

That’s it from us for now. Have a peaceful half-term in these challenging times.

Keep safe, Madeleine and Sue
