MUSIC NB/ MUSIQUE NB

★ MEMBER OF THE WEEK ★ MEMBRE DE LA SEMAINE ★

The Tower is the throttling, ferocious and open-hearted debut EP from Saint John hardcore outfit Surface Wounds. Originally a passion project between vocalist Tyson Kingsley, bassist Dusty Bayerle, drummer Dan Finn, and guitarists Yurgos Elisseou and Dawson Cole, Surface Wounds has caught heat in Canada’s Maritime provinces.

PITCH YOUR STARTUP IDEA TO US, WE'LL MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Thu, 15 October 2020

8:00 PM – 9:00 PM ADT

Online: Moncton, NB

We will evaluate the idea and yourself based on three simple things: feasibility and potential for the idea and your eagerness to start your project and become an entrepreneur. Once done we will propose either our Full Assistance plan, our Startup Assistance plan, or our Partial Assistance plan. Full Assistance is our best plan and is 5 to 6 times less expensive than market cost, Startup Assistance is 3 to 4 times less expensive than market cost, and Partial Assistance is twice less expensive than market cost.

For the idea, feasibility means that your project can be enabled by technology or optimized by technology, potential means that your project must be scalable and become big. When it comes to you, we want to help people who really want to start an entrepreneurial project thus once we make you an offer today you will need to accept or decline it today. We have options to help you if you’re on a really tight budget such as financing options or a simple one-time fee product to start that we call an MVP-A.

NB Covid Comedy Relief
October 17th

In the year of Covid-19, murder hornets, protests, and political scandals, practicing self-care has never been more urgent, and HubCap Comedy Festival has the perfect antidote!
New Brunswick’s diligence during the pandemic has made it possible to host old-fashioned in-person live shows at the Capitol Theatre. A hybrid approach will also make it possible to take in the performances virtually from the comfort of your couch to laugh away the pain with New Brunswick’s funniest comedians, October 17th.
The lineup features a who’s who of New Brunswick comedic talent, including Nikki Payne, James Mullinger, Luc LeBlanc, Candy Palmater, Tim Steeves, Julien Dionne, Lucien, and Jimmy the Janitor, and more. The shows will feature a mix of live and virtual performances by the guest artists.
Partnering with the Government of New Brunswick will allow the HubCap Comedy Festival to go virtual.  Covid-induced capacity restrictions at the Capitol Theatre means an opportunity for the festival to share this show with all New Brunswickers in a very special online format. While there are fewer than 300 seats available at the Capitol Theatre, we have an unlimited number of virtual tickets available to comedy fans across New Brunswick and around the world.

Virtual Tickets and show information available at www.hubcapcomedyfestival.ca  or
call HubCap HQ at 506-855-8525.

New Brunswick Performance Art Tour 2020
 Between October 10 and November 8, 2020

Galerie Sans Nom proudly presents PERFform, a Performance Art Tour in the province of New Brunswick. This tour will feature seven artists who have emerging and established practices in performance art: Marika Drolet-Ferguson, Emily Saab, Jerry Ropson, Xavier Gould, Samuel Landry as well as the founders of the project: Linda Rae Dornan and Mathieu Léger. PERFform aims to bring performance art throughout the province with this tour, hoping to disseminate an artistic practice that is more obscure from the tradition of visual arts. Made possible through a Touring Grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture of the Province of New Brunswick, this tour will bring the artists to 9 communities throughout the province. The artists have prepared a series of performances created specifically for this one of a kind tour in New Brunswick.

For more information or interviews, please reach Annie France of Galerie Sans Nom or PERFform directly. See the contact info below. Please consult PERFform‘s website and the Facebook event for the time of the events.

GROUNDWORKS
Online Training Weekend

Solo Chicken Productions is thrilled to announce that we are launching GROUNDWORKS; a fully online weekend of performance training workshops aimed at offering artists access to world-class instructors in a diverse array of performing arts – all from the safety of their homes.  Groundworks offerings are intended to spur creative challenges, ignite disruption, and create space for the mind and body of the performer to grow.

Always looking for silver linings, one of the unexpected positive outcomes of the pandemic and resulting move to online teaching is that artists across the globe are adapting their craft and are now willing to teach online.  Solo Chicken wanted to take advantage of this movement and help fellow New Brunswick artists and folks beyond, connect with a truly stellar line-up of instructors that previously would have been challenging to access.  Solo Chicken knows that nothing can replace live interaction but in challenging times the act of coming together and sharing skills, even though ZOOM can be a powerful creative catalyst and connector.

·       Friday, October 16 – Sunday, October 18, 2020

·        http://www.solochickenproductions.com/groundworks  for details and registration.

·       Workshop Rates:  $80/Weekend Pass, $20/Deep Dives, $10/Quick Hits, and BIPOC PWYC and bursary options available!

Call to action from FAME – Event Sector Support Campaign

A message from Martin Roy of FAME (Festivals and Major Events Canada)

The return to normal will not occur in 2021. It would be unrealistic to expect that we could restart our activities in full by next summer. We must convince public health authorities to approve innovative proposals that would allow us to maximize our capacity to generate profits and survive the crisis. The formulas employed by drive-in concerts and socially distanced concerts that we have already seen around the world can serve as a starting point for coming up with these types of ideas.

This is what we need the Federal government to recognize, and why we are today launching what we are calling the “Events Sector Support Campaign.”

Why now? Because the federal budget is currently being conceived, Minister Guilbeault will be making his Departmental asks the Minister of Finance, and the party caucus will also be putting pressure on having the needs of their local communities addressed in the budget. Now is the time where decisions will be made for action in 2021, notably with regard to financial aid for festivals and events.

For this reason, we are asking for members to take the following actions over the coming weeks:

If you have not already spoken with your local Member of Parliament since the beginning of the crisis, now is the time. We suggest that you communicate with your elected official to explain your situation in relation to some of FAME’s recommendations for Canada’s touristic and economic recovery. Specifically, we are hoping that you can ask your MP to speak with and write to both Ministers Guilbeault and Freeland (the Minister of Finance) in support of our recommendations.

To that end, we are providing a template that you can use and adapt as you see fit.

Intensive Workshop Series: Photography

You don’t have to be a photographer, or even have a fancy camera, in order to take good pictures. And since having good photos of your work is a vital part of selling your art, it’s a good thing that you can take a DIY approach.
This two day intensive will cover the basics of photography using whatever camera you have available to you. The first day, run by photographer Tim Lingley, will focus on how to take a good photo, including how to light your artwork, what the rule of thirds is and how it applies to your practice, how to make sure your work is in focus, and much more.
The second day, run by photographer Amy Stewart, will focus on what to do once you’ve taken the photos. How do you make them look their best? How do you resize and add them to whatever you need to add them to? How do you best use the tools at your disposal? Lunch and snacks will be provided.
Workshop space is limited: to apply, email a CV, and cover letter to jeri@artslinknb.com by October 25.
For any questions, contact ArtsLink NB's Programming Director, Jeri Knopp at jeri@artslinknb.com or (506) 647 6201.
