It took Mark and me a few years after becoming practicing Christians to absorb what God has revealed about the importance of giving to the point that writing out a pledge card became a joyful task. We have been giving at least 10% of our income away, much of it through our local church, since shortly after we were married in the late 80s, and I don't think anything could make us stop -- certainly not this season of finding new ways to connect and serve during a global pandemic. I hope you will join us in setting a giving goal -- joyfully and gratefully -- through Emmanuel in 2021 as we continue Doing What Love Requires.
This Week's Highlights
DOING WHAT LOVE REQUIRES
If you missed Sunday's video with Carlos Renteria and Elizabeth Golebie sharing their experience of staying connected through 2020 at Emmanuel, take a look at it now!  You should have received 2021 support information by mail, or you can pledge online.  Our goal is to receive all 2021 pledges by November 1, All Saints Day.

HYMNS AND HOPS
This coming Sunday October 18th at 4 p.m. please join in Emmanuel's second all-parish “Hymns and Hops” on Zoom (just click that link to join!) with singing, trivia, and a few words from Mother Beth. Bring your own beer, tea, or effervescent French-named water beverage of choice for a fun hour of fellowship. We’ll be muted, so you don't need to be a strong singer to enjoy some of the best hymns in the Episcopal hymnal with Michael Fisher and Christopher Mason!

SIGN UP FOR MASS
Several are now taking advantage of Emmanuel's in-person Masses, and receiving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in our beautiful nave again has been deeply moving for many. We're especially grateful to those many parishioners who are serving as readers and greeters! If you are being cautious about groups, the Thursday Mass is usually the least heavily attended. Let us know you'll be there.

ALL SOULS DAY
As usual Emmanuel invites everyone who has lost a loved one this year to submit their names (or those of other departed friends or family) to be mentioned in prayer on Nov 2nd. The list will be livestreamed at 8am Morning Prayer on Facebook and available thereafter. Those who do not have email received a form in the mail; you may also submit names here, which is especially helpful for making sure we have the correct spelling.  The deadline to receive names is Wednesday October 28th.

Parish Calendar

IN A PASTORAL EMERGENCY - If you or a family member are in the hospital or have another personal emergency, please let the clergy know; they are ready to visit or assist. If the office is closed, please leave the information (including which hospital) in one of their personal office voicemail boxes or on a home phone. Emmanuel can also arrange to have meals provided; just ask!

SCHEDULE INFORMATION -
Emmanuel's ministry staff seek health for both themselves and the parish culture by taking regular time off. MOTHER BETH is off on Fridays. DEACON CHRIS is currently working from home. MARISA CROFTS is currently on maternity leave. Voice mail may be left in their boxes at any time.

OFFICE HOURS-
The church office is open limited hours weekday mornings for work that cannot be done remotely. At other times our staff will continue fulfilling all their ministry responsibilities from home, including actively responding to email and phone messages.
