Hello friend,

I suddenly felt inspired to share a quick thought, so here it is without further ado:

Don’t ruin a perfectly good achievement by dumping perfectionism all over it.

How did I stumble upon this insight?

Well, this afternoon I took the ICF Core Knowledge Assessment, the final step in getting my PCC credential. The good news: I passed! The less good news: As soon as I got my score, I (unsurprisingly) started obsessing… I wish I’d gotten just a few points higher… I felt good about that section, why didn’t I score better? I wonder what I got wrong? How did I screw that up?… And on... and on… AND ON.

I let myself run with this for about 15 minutes. Then my wiser self stepped in to inject a bit of perspective. YOU PASSED! That means you’ve earned your PCC, something you’ve been working towards for years! And rather than savoring the moment, you’re going to ruin it by dumping perfectionism all over it? Nope. Not today. Today you’re taking “passed” over “perfect.”

So there it is. Turns out I like my wiser self. :) She has good things to say. I think I’ll try to listen to her more.

And this makes me wonder.

What is your wiser self trying to tell you?

I'll leave you to ponder that if you wish. :) In any case, please take good care until next time.

All my best,

Elizabeth Odders-White
