Dear friends and partners,
Early voting has begun, and it’s easier than ever to exercise your civic duty safely and conveniently. I turned in my ballot this week at one of LA County’s hundreds of secure drop-off locations.
Find a mailbox, drop-off location, or voting center near you and join the record numbers of voters across the country making sure their voices are heard on Election Day!
The November ballot includes
various federal, state, and local contests. Your vote helps determine how our schools are funded, how our families are supported, and how the needs of our communities are met—including LAUSD’s
Measure RR, the School Upgrades and Safety bond measure. If approved,
Measure RR will provide funds to upgrade, modernize, and replace aging and deteriorating school facilities, update technology, and address inequities in our children’s schools.
That includes preparing our facilities to safely get our kids back in the classroom as soon as we can. Emerging County guidance begins to give schools some options to serve high need students in-person. Although most instruction will remain virtual for the immediate future, we have reached an agreement with our teachers’ union about how to
safely provide limited, voluntary one-to-one tutoring and special education assessments in person in the near future and on a pilot basis. We have also opened up our
free Covid-19 testing program to all students, families, and employees, and partnered with Health Net to offer
free flu shots this year for everyone in our school communities. As we monitor the success of these programs, I will continue to push the District to safely expand these and other small group instructional services and childcare options to serve more students and families.
Lastly, the Supreme Court ruled this week that
the White House can shut down the Census count early. Today, October 15, is now the
last day to complete the Census and make sure you are counted.
Your voice matters—make sure it’s heard.
