Thank you for your stewardship

Pledge now for 2021

THANK YOU to all the faithful stewards who have made it possible for the church to survive 2020 with strength.  Your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness have allowed CUMC to weather one of the most difficult storms in modern church history well.  We could not do it without you and without God’s ongoing providence.  If you wish to make a pledge for the year ahead, you can do so at our website:  www.cumcvb.org.  If this is not possible for you this year due to the economic or personal impact of the pandemic, we understand and please reach out if the church can help in any way.

Procedure for attending church in person

CUMC has returned to church wide in-person worship on Sunday for both services, 9:00AM and 11:15AM. Both the 9:00AM and 11:15AM Modern Worship services will continue to be livestreamed. All small groups, including Sunday School classes, will continue to meet together online and not on church property.

Be aware that you cannot just show up on Sunday for worship. Our gathering will have a limited capacity. You MUST pre-register your desire to attend Sunday worship each week by completing a Health Acknowledgement form by noon on the Wednesday prior to the service you wish to attend. This form can be found on our church website: www.cumcvb.org. The first approved registrants up to a maximum allowed capacity will be selected to attend worship weekly. All others may continue to worship with the church online by following the links at our home page. All small groups, including Sunday School classes, will continue to meet together online and not on church property.  Be aware that you cannot just show up on Sunday for worship. Beach Bag Program

The Virginia Beach Education Foundation, tax ID #54-1637620, will host a food drive to support our Beach Bags program, which provides shelf-stable meals and healthy snacks to students who go hungry during weekends and school breaks. The food drive will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Pembroke Mall (Kohl’s parking lot behind Walgreens).

From the Beach Bag Program

We do recognize and are appreciative of the church-based food pantries that serve our community, and we know the positive difference you make in our families’ lives. We hope you’ll consider joining us for our upcoming Beach Bags-specific drive to allow us to continue meeting our students’ needs.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools distributes weekly approximately 500-1000 Beach Bags to our food-insecure students, serving one-third of our 86 schools per week, which means we provide meals to approximately 1,500 students per month. Since its inception in 2009, the Beach Bags program has provided more than 154,000 shelf-stable meals to students.

Each Beach Bag contains:
individual cereal boxes or oatmeal packages;
8 oz. shelf-stable milk cartons (juice box sized);
shelf-stable main course items;
4 oz. fruit cups and/or 100% juice boxes; and
snack items.
Supporters of our Beach Bags program donate these food items or make tax-deductible contributions to the Virginia Beach Education Foundation (www.vbef.org). One hundred percent of monetary donations received goes toward the purchase of food.

We hope to have your church’s support of our October 22, 2019 Beach Bags Food Drive to continue providing our students with food that nourishes their bodies and better prepares them to succeed at school. Thank you for your consideration and for making a difference in our community!

Sincerely,
Debbie Hughes

Missions & Service Update

JCOC needs your help

The volunteer Coordinator at JCOC, Krishna Loya, put a request on Charity Tracker that they need underwear and toiletries for the homeless. Since there are various sizes needed, they would greatly appreciate a monetary donation in order to fill individual needs.  You may do that using their web site (jcoc.org) or mailing a check to the JCOC, 1053 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
To make a donation online go to jcoc.org and find Donation Information: select the amount you want to give, then select one time or recurring donation, and finally on the drop-down menu find Toiletries and Underwear. Your money will be put to good use!
Thank you for helping to serve those in need,
Mary McConathy, Missions & Service
