The Season is in full swing, Christmas is just around the corner.

We have been out in the field a lot recently and one thing that is striking is just how well shooting has adapted to the questions posed by COVID. From beaters’ carts laden with mask wearing shoot helpers and bottles of hand sanitiser on every flat surface to the ubiquitous digital thermometer being passed over every participant at the start of the day, the Sport has adapted whilst retaining its character.
More than once a friend or acquaintance has removed his or her hip flask from a pocket, half proffered it and then with a wistful if not unduly disappointed look, observed that “we’d better not”.
Attitudes have been outstanding, but we encourage every reader to remember that shooting takes place under a social licence. This is a sport that operates to the highest standards in many areas, from safety to sportsmanship to inclusiveness, we must ensure that we hold ourselves to the same standards with regards to the virus.
Quarantine regulations have played havoc with the ability of our overseas friends to join us on days. This and a natural reluctance on the part of some domestic guns to commit to days anything like as early as normal means that there is still some quality sport available for the discerning shot.

We still have availability at Glenalmond Estate both for full teams and for single guns. If you are going to take an additional day this season then Glenalmond should be a natural choice. Why? The title of this newsletter mentions Christmas, surely it’s a little early? Well we think not. In answer to the proverbial question, “what do I get my wife, husband, child or friend for Christmas,” we would answer – An Introduction to Deer Stalking Course. Seriously, what a great way to bring a spouse or child, (18 years of age or FAC holder please) into the Sport.
