2021 – an opportunity to see the world?

The Covid-19 virus has brought international travel to a standstill this year with many countries introducing curfews and travel restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. Some predicted a  travel industry in freefall which may not recover, however others are far more optimistic about the future of travel, and see 2021 as a year full of new adventures and opportunities.

Shrewsbury Folk Festival receives lifeline grant from Government’s £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund

hrewsbury Folk Festival has been awarded £93,000 as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure they have a sustainable future, the Culture Secretary has announced today.

Highly-praised Friday Hub returns to help businesses

The Marches Growth Hub’s highly-praised Friday Hub is to resume to offer help to businesses across the whole of Shropshire.

The weekly Shropshire Business Zoom Room – a big success during the coronavirus lockdown – will restart on October 16 and continue until January 21 2021.

The hub – which runs from 9.15 to 10.15am on the online Zoom platform – is open to all businesses in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Adcote School is a finalist for 'Senior School of the Year'

Adcote School, at Little Ness, near Shrewsbury, has been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Senior School of the Year 2020’.

The news comes after the non-selective girl’s school won a national award for its Prep School and marks the fifth time in three years that Adcote has been shortlisted for a major national award.

Last year Adcote was the winner of the national award for ‘Academic Excellence and Innovation’ in the Prep/Junior School category at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) annual awards.

1st Choice Insurance Joins STITC's 'Friends of the Community' Sponsorship Scheme

Shrewsbury based insurance broker 1st Choice Insurance have joined the ‘Friends of the Community’ sponsorship scheme for local charity Shrewsbury Town in the Community, who are the official charity of Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

This month, 1st Choice Insurance of Jupiter House on Shrewsbury Business Park has joined Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s ‘Friends of the Community’ sponsorship scheme, which helps STITC continue to support and make an impact on the local community through their sports, education and wellbeing programmes.

Owners over the moon to reveal store makeover after successful 100 days

A Shropshire couple has celebrated a successful 100 days since taking over a county high street business by revealing a stunning makeover for the shop.

Derek and Maria Bowen toasted three months as owners of independent drinks retailer Moonshine & Fuggles in Ironbridge by showcasing the store’s new look on Saturday 3 October 2020.

Marches LEP launches new online jobs and skills tool

A new online tool to help people across the Marches update their skills, make the most of their potential and find work has been launched by the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership.

 

The new micro-website – The Marches Work and Training Tool at https://www.marcheslep.org.uk/trainingtool/ – guides visitors through a series of simple diagnostic questions to tell them what training or skills provision is available which is best suited to them or their business needs.

Halloween fun lined up for Shropshire youngsters with Crossbar clubs

Shropshire youngsters are looking forward to a half-term treat at Halloween-themed holiday clubs organised by an established county sports coaching company.

Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport will be running action-packed holiday clubs at nine county primary schools, and also offering a dance camp and soccer school at Shrewsbury’s London Road Sports Centre, between Monday, October 26 and Friday, October 30.

Early booking is recommended as numbers are limited, with all of the clubs open to boys and girls aged between four and 11.
