Dear Friends and Fellow Republicans
Today I am writing to you not only as the 6th District Chair, but as a Member of the Strasburg Town Council. And the subject of today's newsletter is to those of you who live in areas which have local elections on the ballot. Mainly, Harrisonburg, Front Royal/Warren, and Roanoke City. Remember this election is important not only because we have Trump/Cline/Gade on the ballot, but of the local races as well.
Local elections have just as much effect on our daily lives as do State and Federal races. City Council, Town Council, School Board, and House of Delegates races have a major impact on each of us personally. From trash pickup to our schools to neighborhood livability, state taxes, 2nd amendment, and 100 other subjects, we need to be active not only at the state and federal level, but at the local level as well.
Several locales have City/Town Council elections this November. And Warren County is having an election to replace House of Delegates Member Chris Collins, also on November's ballot.
In Roanoke City, Peg McGuire and Maynard Keller are on the ballot for City Council. I've had the privilege of meeting them both. They're running on a Roanoke based agenda which includes having Roanoke City citizens determine who is on the City School Board with local elections rather than having the Board Members appointed. And while the Roanoke City Council has been dismissive of their police force (did you know that there are currently over 30 vacancies on the Roanoke City Police Department), only Peg and Maynard have been to Back the Blue rallies and understand that the 1st job of a Town or City is to protect law abiding citizens from those who would live outside the law. Watch the City Council Candidate Forum for yourself and you'll clearly see why I'm so enthusiastic about Peg and Maynard.

In Harrisonburg, Republican Kathleen Kelly, MD and George Hirschmann (conservative independent) are running inspired campaigns against a Democratic machine. Harrisonburg has gone from a pale shade of red to blue in recent years, thanks to the influence of James Madison University. Hirschmann has been focused on COVID and how the public money received by Harrisonburg will be spent. Hirschmann wants to make sure the federal dollars coming into Harrisonburg do not become a slush fund.
Dr. Kelly has also been concerned about the response to the virus, calling the forced shutting down of businesses "was a bit draconian".
Current School Board Member Kaylene Seigle is a fascinating young lady who has been representing the City of Harrisonburg well on the School Board. I've gotten to know her well over the past few years, and can not say enough nice things about Kaylene, both as a person and a Board Member. She will do well if re-elected, and will make Harrisonburg proud.
In Front Royal, the choice is clear. The good people of Front Royal, who have seen scandal after scandal in the Town and County both, need good principled conservative leaders - and in Mayoral Candidate Chris Holloway. Lori Athey Cockrell, Scott Lloyd, and Joe McFadden you have an amazing group of them. Having seen each of them perform at candidate forums, and watched Lori Cockrell from across the Massanutten, I am 100% convinced that they will do Front Royal proud.
As a Member of the Strasburg Town Council, I know what it takes to be either a good Mayor or Councilor. And having met each person above - and having taken measure of each candidate, I can personally guarantee you that each of the above mentioned candidates are the best to serve as either School Board Members or Council Members.
And last but certainly not least, Bill Wiley is running to replace my personal friend Chris Collins in the House of Delegates. Chris will be hard to replace, but Bill Wiley is a man of the people, who served well on the Winchester City Council. Bill is a conservative's conservative. Bill will be a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment in Richmond, and will fight for pro-job, pro-life, and pro-growth policies as your Delegate.

VOTING HAS ALREADY BEGUN!!!! If you are concerned about being out in public, go to your local registrar's office and vote. It's quite simple, I voted on Friday in person, got in and out in less than 5 minutes!
