Summer has slipped by leaving tracks on a path never before taken!
As the grim reality of COVID-19 developed early in the year, many hours were spent in looking at ministry options that would help keep the Doe River Gorge doors open.
In place of summer camp for kids, we hosted numerous families and church groups for "something like summer camp", which was well-received and appreciated. Several commented that it was a great place to get away from being isolated at home and was just what was needed!
DAYQUEST on Saturdays has been offered for many years. It's open to the public June through September, and serves as an opportunity to connect with people for future ministry opportunities by providing a family-friendly place for fun, adventure, and relaxation.
One unique idea that "took root" has come to be known as "The Maze of Life"... a corn maze that is "more than a corn maze". Our activities teach life lessons from a Biblical point of view and The Maze of Life is no exception. The six acre corn maze represents the often confusing challenges of life and the importance of directional assistance. Those who enter the maze are given a New Testament and, at designated stations along the trail, are pointed to select Bible passages that guide them through the maze.
The Maze of Life is open weekends from the end of September to the first weekend of November and has been well-attended, particularly by folks who had never been here before, or had never heard of Doe River Gorge!
The event also features hay rides, train rides, unique, tasty foods, petting zoo... a special place to get outdoors and make some family memories.
Pray that these new contacts will open doors of ministry in the days ahead, and that God will use The Maze of Life in a-mazing ways!
One day, we will look back on this pandemic and see how God's hand was working through it all...for our good and His glory!
