The Weekly Briefing is sponsored by Kennesaw State University's Division of Global Affairs
From the editor:

Thanks for reading the Weekly Update. Just one quick note I wanted to bring to your attention: Global Atlanta’s most recent COVID Consular Conversation highlighted the newly arrived consuls general from Ireland and Belgium, as well as Ard Van der Vorst of the Netherlands, which boasts the newest consular office in the city. We had a dynamic discussion touching on European unity, travel restrictions, supply chains, vaccines and much more. I hope you will...

5 Things This Week

1. Film, fashion and…video games? As part of a monthlong event series, France and Atlanta explored how deepening collaboration in the creative industries could drive investment.
2. A Cobb Chamber forum decoded the new NAFTA. Sifting through the chapters on small business, digital goods, IP and more may be complex, but the thrust of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement is clear: simplifying trade, especially for novice exporters.
3. A book talk explored the complex history of Mexican immigrants in the South. They arrived as welcome farm labor, but the mood changed with the demographics, especially in Georgia.
4. International trade was responsible for 1 in 5 Georgia jobs. The Business Roundtable outlined the state’s dependency on the world for job generation, while the Georgia Department of Economic Development unveiled a new program offering exporters up to $6,000 in grants.
5. Quebec’s delegate in the South departed after three years. Donald Leblanc left just after aiding the successful lobbying effort to remove a U.S. tariff on Canadian aluminum, but he also helped build ties in fintech, health care, smart cities and more.

The Weekly Briefing is also sponsored by Brandon Hall School, Atlanta's Global Boarding and Day School, which challenges students to lead lives of leadership, scholarship, and service. Brandon Hall celebrates learning, fosters global citizenship, embraces diversity, encourages athleticism and artistic expression, and inspires students to find their path and lead the way.
