Reflection 

Dear All

Isaiah speaks of God using Cyrus, the Persian king (God calls him his anointed – Isaiah 4:1, 4-6) to carry out his salvific plan. A benevolent ruler, King Cyrus believes in religious pluralism and allows the Jews to return from Babylon to Jerusalem and re-build the Temple.

Think of an experience from your own life or that of someone you know in which help came from an unlikely source. Ultimately, God is in charge and can work through even the least likely people.

Kindly keep Mrs. Theresa Soh in your prayers. May God give her the grace and courage to accept what she cannot change.

Prayers of the Faithful 

Father we pray for the Pope and the college of bishops as they endeavour to be good stewards of the financial resources entrusted to them.  That they weigh h

eavily what belongs to governments of the day and what belongs to the people of God.
 
Father we pray today for peace in our world which is troubled in different areas by war and fighting. May the Holy Spirit guide the world leaders in their decision making.
 
Father we pray for all who are victims of injustice and poverty. May we open our arms and hearts to them in particular those suffering in our own community.
 
Father we pray for those gathered here that each day we find new ways to put our faith into action, in our community, and also working towards personally becoming better disciples.
 
Father during this National Carer’s Week we pray for  the 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend with disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged. “Blest be the work of their hands.”
 
 

St Vincent de Paul - Food Bank Report

St Vincent de Paul works side by side with Food Bank providing for those in need within our community. The latest Food Bank report gives a deep insight into the need for our services in 2020. 
 
This year’s report emphasises that COVID-19 is having a profound effect on the food security of Australians. While the need for food relief has become somewhat erratic and unpredictable, nationally charities are reporting that overall demand is up by 47% and many of those now experiencing food insecurity (28%) have never before needed support.
 
Other key findings include: 

• The proportion of food insecure Australians seeking food relief at least once a week has more than doubled since last year, from 15% to 31%.
• When it comes to COVID-19 causing hunger in the community, young Australians are being hit the hardest. 65% of food insecure 18 to 25-year-olds are going without food at least once a week due to the pandemic.
• More than a quarter (28%) of those experiencing food insecure had never faced it before the pandemic.
• Charities are seeing significant numbers of two new groups in particular: casual employees and international students.
• 61% of food secure Australians have accessed food relief since COVID-19 hit but the other 39% have not reached out for the help they need. The most common barriers to accessing relief are embarrassment (33%), shame (30%) or thinking there might be others in greater need (33%).
• While government assistance, such as JobKeeper and JobSeeker, have provided vital temporary relief for many, 62% say they are not receiving the assistance they need.
• 37% say they need more than they’re getting,
• 21% are ineligible for any additional support and
• 4% have found it too difficult to apply.
• Post-COVID-19, almost 35% of food secure Australians don’t know how they will cope or expect they won’t cope at all when the additional government support is withdrawn.

St Denis Parish COVID-19 Guidelines  

• All gatherings/meetings are to occur in the body of the church utilising the pews in the church.
  • The Marian Chapel is closed to the public at this time;
  • The foyer of the church is not available for meetings and for other programs e.g. line dancing;
  • The Parish Centre including the Nolan Room and the outdoor courtyard are not available for use.
  • The out-door toilets are closed.

• Social distancing to be observed at all times.  1.5 metres between people; 2 square metres per person at meetings/prayer gatherings within the body of the church.

• No social gatherings involving the sharing of food and drinks are permitted indoors or outdoors on St Denis property.  In line with the government requirements of ‘Safety First’ the sharing of food, serving utensils, serviettes etc is strongly discouraged.  For example the parish kitchen is only big enough for 1 person at a time.

• Every person entering the church is required to sanitize their hands or to wash their hands with soap and water which is provided in the bathroom area.

• Cleaning and Sanitizing of the church after each gathering (prayer groups, mass, etc.) is to be completed by the people who have gathered using the sanitiser and cloths provided in the church. Cloths to be put in buckets provided at the doors of the church

• Every person coming into the church is required to register their name and phone number in our sign in books provided in the foyer of the church. This is to enable contact tracing in case of an outbreak of Covid-19 and is a government requirement. 

• The maximum number at this stage is 100.

• Acolytes, altar servers, sacristan and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are not required. 

• The Lector is invited to sit in the body of the church and to move to the sanctuary when required.

• We will not be having entrance/recessional processions or Offertory processions.

• No communion from the Chalice.

• No communion on the tongue.  Please receive communion in the hand, and remain standing – kneeling makes it far to difficult for Father to remain socially distanced from the communicant.

• Hymn books, loose prayer sheets, etc are not to be used.

• Distribute hard copies of our parish bulletin – if you would like to receive a copy of our bulletin via email please sign up using the links at the bottom of this newsletter or email newsletter@stdenis.com.au 

• Have our book of intentions or mass intentions envelopes out.  If you wish to have a mass offered please contact the parish office on 92422812 or email admin@stdenis.com.au  or place an envelope in the offering basket in the foyer of the church.

• Take up collections during Mass.  There are baskets in the foyer of the church for planned giving envelopes/offerings or you may contribute on line – banking details are provided on the newsletter.
