My Favorite Funny Stories - classic anecdotes, collected

Everybody has an anecdote, a favorite joke to tell or experience to recount at the party, the dinner table, or, if you're famous, the talk show. In 1967, best-selling book creator Bill Adler compiled the tales told by the greats of the 20th century, whether it be entertainers like Groucho Marx and Katherine Hepburn, political powerhouses like John F. Kennedy and Winston Churchill, sports figures like Yogi Berra and Jackie Robinson, or even religious powerhouses like Billy Graham and the Pope. My Favorite Funny Story, originally published by Four Winds Press, had hundreds of these tales, accompanied with dozens of illustrations by the great cartoonist and caricaturist Al Kilgore.
In the pages of this book, you'll see Jerry Lewis's explaining his own awkward encounter with a bellboy, Billy Graham learning of an unlikely use for the hymn "Onward, Christian Soldiers," Zsa Zsa Gabor revealing how she got her new fur coat, and Yogi Berra explaining the problem he had taking advice from Casey Stengel. It's a very grazable book, perfect for those moments when you have a minute to read.
Here at About Comics, we've been reprinting a number of Adler's books, and not just because of the fine words inside. Adler brought some top cartoonists in on his projects, including "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz on Dear President Johnson and Mad great Mort Drucker on What to Name Your Jewish Baby, both of which are already available in About Comics editions. When we realized that Adler had some books illustrated by Al Kilgore, we just had top get the rights to reprint them, because we are already deep into Kilgore's work. Kilgore, who is probably best known for his work on the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" comic strip and on his award-winning Elvis paper doll book, is already represented in the About Comics catalog by Kilgore's Catholics, our collection into one volume of a series of religious-themed cartoon booklets he drew in the 1950s, and Little Gabriel, his solo masterpiece about an impish little angel... and there is more in the works!
