Snow Trenches.
 Rare personal account of an officer with the American Expeditionary Force in North Russia during the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Founded on personal experience but written in novelised form which the writer of the Introduction, Robert J. Casey (in his won right an acclaimed correspondent & war hero) describes as " a masterpiece of war fiction." Dan Steele served with the 339th Infantry at Archangel &c, until released in July 1919: this copy inscribed by him: "To my friend Tom Mullen in appreciation of many kindnesses Dan Steele... 9/22/31." The Diary of a Cavalry Subaltern, August 16th to September 11th, 1914.
 Very rare account of author's brief active service with the 20th Hussars in 1914, from leaving Colchester to a final entry on 11th Sept., presumably the author was wounded soon after. The 20th Hussars was in action on the Belgian frontier within days of arrival on the continent, followed by Retreat from Mons, then advance to the Aisne. Men of Valour: The Third Volume of the History of The VIII King's Royal Irish Hussars, 1927-1958.
 Probably the scarcest WW2 regimental history, reputed to have been just 50 copies printed, also an exceptionally detailed & well-illustrated work. Light tanks in Western Desert 1939-42 (inc. Sidi Rezegh, 1st & 2nd Alamein &c.); converted to armoured cars in 1943 then back to Cromwell tanks & landed in Normandy June 1944 with 7th Armd. Div., battles for Caen &c. then through France & the Low Countries to Hamburg. Also good coverage of Korea, now in Centurions. Num. appendices inc. Roll of Hon., awards officers' services &c. The Life & Campaigns of Field-Marshal Prince Blucher, of Wahlstatt, From the Period of His Birth & First Appointment in the Prussian Service, Down to His Second Entry into Paris in 1815: Comprehending Not only authentic biographical Incidents of the leading military Characters of both the French & Confederate Armies, But Enriched Likewise with Much Novel & Interesting Matter.
 Fine & detailed life of Blucher & his many campaigns from 1793-1815. Very nice copy indeed with neat ink ownership inscrip. of "Morgan Crofton 2nd Life Guards 20.9.10" (i.e., Sir Morgan George Crofton, 6th Bt., 1879-1958, served Boer War & WW1, DSO. His 1914-15 diaries were published in 2004), bound in qtr. red morocco with red cloth boards by Hatchards (c.1910), shoulders very sl. rubbed o/w excellent copy throughout with virtually none of the foxing/offsetting of the maps that is frequently found.  Large & sumptuous work printed on fine art paper throughout, detailing impressively in words & photographs some 900 war memorials, ranging from individual graves to a large number of regiments, corps & communities throughout the Empire. Indices of places, ships, regiments, schools, individual names &c. Orig. red cloth, gilt, sp. little sunned, a previous owner has marked various entries in the index of Ships & Regiments with small & neat blue ink ticks, o/w near fine & very bright throughout. Memories of Flanders (1914-1919).
 A slim but charming & well-illustrated work reprinting in volume form four pieces that originally appeared in the columns of the South Eastern Gazette. (i) The Evacuation of Bailleul (in March 1918); (ii) Ypres (a short piece on the famous City); (iii) West Flanders (a general description of the devastated area, &c.); (iv) With the Labour Corps (a short account of the raising & organisation of the LC, evidently based on personal experiences. Interspersed are short accounts of some of the front line locations such as Ridge Wood, Vlamertynghe, Dickebusch, plus list of approx. 40 habitations in Flanders with a note of their pre-war population, condition in 1918 & remarks such as "Temporary wooden erections are now being built" in the the case of some of the destroyed villages: "It is difficult to know what will be done... Places like Hooge & Gheluvelt have ceased to exist... A few wooden buildings are dotted here & there - mostly estaminets - & are occupied by former residents of the villages." The First Three Months: The Impressions of an Amateur Infantry Subaltern.
 The author was a Special Reserve officer of the Northamptonshire Regt., mobilised with the 1st Bn. (2nd Bde., 1st Div., I Corps), he gives a full account - based on his diary - of mobilisation, embarkation & arrival in France, Retreat from Mons, Aisne, Chemin-des-Dames & 1st Ypres when he was wounded 23/10/14. In Memory 1857. The Golden Commemoration of the Indian Mutiny Veterans at the Albert Hall Dec. 23rd 1907.
 Souvenir of the event including details of the commemorative parade & dinner plus lists of some hundreds of surviving officers & men, not all of whom attended the event. The list of officers is alphabetical & the lists of other ranks alphabetical within regimental lists. It has lost its ribbon tie (but that could be replaced), little marked & worn but signed to front "Eckford, 30 Roland Gardens" (Major A.H. Eckford is listing among the attendees: Alexander Haldane Eckford 1837-1914, commissioned 1854, served with 69th Native Inf. & Captain in the Bengal Staff Corps, in Civil Employ, 1866; Major & Cantonment Magistrate at Barrackpore 1874. War Services: "present at the siege & capture of Delhi in 1857 & was severely wounded on 19th July. Accompanied General Penny's Column into the Rohilcund, & was severely wounded in action at Kukerowlee on the 30th April 1858, receiving two sabre cuts while driving back Ghazees from the guns... Scotland Yet!
 Scottish infantry other rank's long & detailed personal account from "Arrival at the Railhead" with a draft to join his regt. (styled Berwickshires, evidently a bn. of the KOSB [probably 7th/8th Bn.]) during the Battle of the Somme, battles of Arras, Passchendaele & throughout the final campaign of 1918. Much on the routine aspects, behind-the-lines inspections, fatigues &c., as well as trench life & operations. 1st published in 1920 by Arthur Stockwell under the title 'The Truth from the Trenches.'
