Major plans are underway to transform Cleveland into a national model for inclusive innovation, and the Cleveland Health-Tech Corridor is at the heart of
it all.

On the heels of the recent news that Wexford Science and Technology will partner with a diverse cross-set of community organizations and stakeholders on creating a new Innovation community development project in the heart of MidTown and the Health-Tech Corridor, two more pieces of the puzzle fell into place last week.

First, the Cleveland Innovation Project went public with their strategy for transforming our regional economy to focus on equity, capital, and place-based economic development, with the Cleveland Health-Tech Corridor as one of the geographic innovation zones, building on the more than 1 million square feet of new development in the HTC in the last ten years. Cleveland Innovation Project is targeting $2 billion in research investments, $4 billion in capital, tech-based investment, and more than 20,000 IT jobs in the next decade.

Second, MAGNET, an organization focused on growing advanced manufacturing and a future manufacturing workforce, will move its headquarters into the vacant Margaret E. Ireland school building located on East 63rd Street in the heart of MidTown. MAGNET is a key part of the Cleveland Innovation Project’s strategy to focus on Manufacturing 4.0 and its new location will provide a highly visible front door to showcase the economic opportunities in manufacturing. Characteristic of MidTown’s community development projects, MAGNET plans to invest in the building and community with a focus on LEED certification, meaningful building upgrades, greenspace renewal, a 21st century connected children’s park and basketball court, and community-use event space.

More announcements will follow in the coming weeks and months as community partners continue their collaboration and alignment around a collective vision for Cleveland’s future.
