NZ is still without Covid in the community, which means a relatively normal Level 1. Relatively, because we are kayaking in Abel Tasman NP next month, which we wouldn't dream of doing in November if we had international tourists here.

I have lots of reasons to be cheerful this week.
  1. We are still at Level 1 with no cases of Covid in the community which means that I will be going kayaking in the Abel Tasman for my birthday. It's something I've wanted to do since I was a backpacker in 1996, but it's usually crazy busy with tourists. Level 1 means normality except for at the borders, which are closed to tourists.
  2. New Zealand had its general election this week. It was all very civilised and we are delighted with the result, as Jacinda Ardern was returned to power with a slight majority of seats in government.
  3. I am the owner of a new electric vehicle.
It’s not a car.
This is a game changer. I had good intentions last year of cycling over to the beach and swimming and cycling back. I did it once. I was knackered. But now I can get there and back in two thirds of the time and not break a sweat.
I would have liked to have converted my regular bike to an electric one, but that isn't really a thing in these parts, so I did the next best thing and bought one (Merida eBig 7 from Electrify in Christchurch) that behaves just like my bike but for a) going bionic at the press of a button, b) being a wee bit heavier to lift up our steps (worth it for the hill climbing) and c) having a REALLY uncomfortable seat. Going to have to fix that! Otherwise, it is awesome.

I’m looking forward to a great summer.
I hope you have some things to look forward to even if you aren't living in New Zealand.
Ta ta for now

PS. If you think someone else might find this interesting, please pass it on.
PPS. Once again, get in quickly if you haven't yet downloaded your free copy of Reasons to be Cheerful.
