Volunteer Management
Discover the latest volunteer management trends including how to engage and support virtual and remote volunteers!

Even in our current (and largely virtual!) world, one well-known fact about nonprofit organizations hasn't changed -- we NEED and DEPEND on our volunteers! There's no denying it, our volunteers provide an invaluable human resource that can enhance our organization’s ability to achieve its mission, priorities, and goals.

Nonprofit leaders, if you're looking to build a successful volunteer program or further develop a previously established program, take a look at our Certificate in Volunteer Management. This year's program will take place online over the course of six half-days in November & December (9:00 AM–2:00 PM) and offers a live and interactive opportunity to help your organization build-up and optimize its most valuable resource, your volunteers! This course will benefit anyone in the nonprofit, association, and governmental sector who seeks to learn how to build a successful volunteer program.

Your instructors, Kathleen McCleskey and Wendy Biro-Pollard, have been collaborating with the Center for Nonprofit Studies for over a decade and together, have over 50 years of nonprofit management, training, and consulting experience. Click here to learn more about this intensive program that will help develop skills and techniques that are useful to any organizational leader.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS CERTIFICATE!
All sessions of this certificate program have been recognized by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration and will cover the Council’s Core Competencies for Managers of Volunteer Resources. Upon completion, participants will earn a Certificate of Completion and 2.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Austin Community College. These may be eligible for use in meeting professional certification requirements. This course is also eligible for AmeriCorps education award funds and the Hazlewood Act tuition exemption program.
Nonprofits and Elections | Vote This Election Day!

Nonprofits are key players in helping everyone have a voice in their own future, provided we operate on a strictly nonpartisan basis, meaning simply, charitable nonprofits may “not participate in … any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” As the conveners of communities, nonprofits are vital in raising awareness, providing resources, and being a conduit for civic engagement. Nonprofits are where people come to address personal needs, find solutions, and work together to help their communities.

Do your part to Get Out The Vote today! Nonprofit VOTE has a helpful GOTV guide with 10 easy-to-implement tactics common to nonprofits and background information to help organizations remain nonpartisan and community-focused. Here are just a few:

  • Include personal messages on internal and external communications with dates and voting information.
  • Have the CEO/ED send an email reminding staff of time off to vote policies.
  • Remind people to vote at events and meetings.
  • Post reminders on social media.
We're doing our part by hosting a FREE interactive community discussion TOMORROW from 12-1:30 PM -- Real Talk: Voting in 2020!

Join us for a moderated conversation that will share what we can (and can't) say as nonprofits and academic institutions this election cycle, discuss what's at stake, and offer easy steps we can all take to encourage our community to get out and VOTE!
