COVID:19  - Track and Trace and Pharmacies

Pausing the Track and Trace app for staff working in healthcare settings

The Track and Trace app is an invaluable tool for society in the battle against COVID-19. However, it can also have some unintended consequences for colleagues working in healthcare settings. NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) advises healthcare workers to pause the app while working in a healthcare building, such as a hospital, GP surgery or NHS community pharmacy, where screens are used.

Further information can be found on the PSNC website at:

https://psnc.org.uk/our-news/healthcare-workers-should-pause-the-nhs-covid-19-app-when-at-work/

Track and Trace QR Codes

The Government is encouraging some businesses and organisations to display official Track and Trac NHS QR code posters at their venue entrances to help support contact tracing.

However, community pharmacies are not required to display these codes, in accordance with Government recommendations.  For more information see the PSNC website at:

Winter Flu Season

PQS and PCN Leads

Your Community Pharmacy PCN lead will shortly be in touch (if they haven't done so already) to discuss your pharmacy's support for the NHS annual flu vaccination programme to create a collaborative approach. Please support your PCN lead by providing the information they request.

Additional NHS stock of influenza vaccines

We know from work already undertaken by some community pharmacy PNC leads that for many pharmacies, stock of flu vaccinations is very limited or depleted. GP practices have been notified of the process for obtaining additional NHS stock of flu vaccines later in the year, and we are expecting a similar letter for community pharmacies imminently. PSNC have been reassured that a proportion of the additional stock will be made available to pharmacies to provide NHS flu vaccinations this season.

Please look out for information from the NHS, PSNC and Community Pharmacy Lincolnshire.

Carers, including domestic care staff

Although, as indicated in PQS the priority for community pharmacy should be promoting vaccines to patients over 65 years of age, remember that individuals working in care settings, including those providing domestic care are entitled to flu vaccinations on the NHS too.

For a complete list of who is entitled to receive an NHS flu vaccination this season, please refer to the NHS PGD:

Pharmacy Influenza Vaccination Patient Group Direction (PGD)
