THANKSGIVING DAY EXPECTATIONS & MORE
Our latest survey shows interesting ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on consumer behavior. 36% of respondents expect to spend Thanksgiving Day at home without guests, compared to only 21% who said they did so last year. The same survey showed that delivery services have adapted to increased demand: 74% reported it was easy to order (compared to 60% in April) and 60% reported on-time delivery compared to only 47% in April. Some of these numbers may be being achieved thanks to substitutions: 32% reported having products substituted compared to only 24% in April (which frequently mean cross-brand substitutions - making it critical to keep your brand in stock).
CPG MARKETING DURING COVID IS LIKE PLAYING MUSICAL CHAIRS
Consumers cooking meals at home and buying groceries online have become the norm. In our mid-May consumer research, we also learned that consumers are trying new brands, not only because of in-stock challenges and COVID-induced frugality, but simply because they’re bored. According to our research, nearly 73% of consumers have tried a new product or brandin the last two months because it seemed fun or entertaining. Right now, CPG marketing is like musical chairs - we know that consumers are trying out different brands, and it's up to each of us to make sure our brand is the one they're landing on.
