Visiting City Hall? Please Mask Up

We’re excited to help you with your application, permit and Permitting and Licensing account needs in person at City Hall. As you head over to visit us, please bring your mask. And if you forget yours, we have disposable masks available as you step off the elevator.

Thanks for doing your part to care for the health and wellbeing of yourself, our staff and our community.

Permitting and Licensing System Update

We are thankful for your patience as we refine our new Permitting and Licensing system. Currently, we are experiencing an additional two-week delay in processing permits. Whether individuals call in or visit us in person, processing times will continue to be delayed while we work through a backlog of records, applications, and permits from our implementation period. All permits and applications are being processed in the order they are received, and as they are processed, you can view the status of each at permits.cityofboise.org.

Share Your Feedback

As we continue to refine our system, we want to hear from you. Tell us about your experiences with our new Permitting and Licensing System by responding to our five-question survey. Your responses will help us better understand your needs, as well as help us identify additional functions that we can possibly integrate to improve our system and your user experience.

Proposed Building and Electrical Code Updates

The City of Boise is proposing updates to our Building and Electrical codes. Before they’re officially implemented, we invite you to take a moment to review the proposed changes and, if necessary, share any questions or comments with us.

Plan Review for Cooking Hood Fire Extinguishing Permits

We’ve updated our process for fire suppression systems installed or modified in Type-I cooking hoods. Cooking Hood Fire Extinguishing permit applications are now reviewed by an International Code Council (ICC) certified Pre-engineered Kitchen Fire Extinguishing System Technician (FK) to ensure the fire suppression design meets the adopted National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Underwriter Laboratories (UL) referenced standards prior to installation. Once the plans are approved and a permit is issued, a field inspection is conducted by a City of Boise Fire Inspector to ensure compliance with the approved plans.

A submittal checklist will need to accompany each permit application along with the required documentation and plans. An updated submittal checklist can be downloaded here: #605 Cooking Hood Fire Extinguishing Application. Plan reviews are completed within 5 working days after prescreen approval. This service further helps tenants or building owners to protect their businesses and livelihood from destructive commercial kitchen fires.

Give us Feedback about Proposed "Housing Bonus" Incentives

We need housing choices that make our community more affordable and diversify housing options for all who wish to call Boise home. To help achieve these goals, we’re proposing five incentives as part of a “Housing Bonus.” We want to know: Do the proposed incentives make sense for Boise?

Approved Amendment:

Limited Review of Demolition Activities

The City of Boise of Boise recently approved an amendment to the Development Code allowing for added review of demolition activities. Prior to the amendment, demolition permits could be obtained in a matter of days for properties not located in an established historic district. This often results in sending materials to the landfill that might otherwise be reused or recycled. Such a wasteful and outdated practice is inconsistent with the city’s broader goals around sustainability and historic preservation.

The amendment requires administrative planning approval prior to demolition of structures in Design Review Overlay Districts. This 10 to14-day review will allow the city and owners to explore alternatives to demolition.

This survey is your chance to help identify priorities and needs along this important street corridor. The City of Boise has determined that the area is eligible for urban renewal assistance and is proceeding with studies and public engagement to determine if a State Street District should be formed. The goal of this project is to improve infrastructure, create diversity in Boise’s housing, leverage existing recreation facilities, and responsibly plan for growth.
