Executive Director’s Report

Bob Lawrence bobble headThe three fundraising efforts of the Palms Project, the PGA Promotion, and the Mary Whyte paintings, all either announced or launched in September, are all yielding continued support for St. Christopher. All remain available for your participation with information to be found in this eEncounter newsletter as well as our website. If you have not yet chosen to be involved in one of these efforts, I ask for your prayerful consideration.  We need full support for each of these fundraising efforts to allow us to meet our operational needs just through the end of this calendar year. We also welcome your participation in the programs and events that remain on our calendar, as well as your presence among us simply for a personal time of rest, restoration and renewal.

A welcomed surprise awaited me in the midst of the weekly staff chapel on September 30. With that date marking my official arrival back in 2010 to serve as the Executive Director, the present staff conspired with past staff, board members, family and friends to pull off a celebration of this 10 year anniversary. The photo with this article gives you a taste of the fun as I was presented with video greetings, an “Admiral’s” hat, and Bobble Bob.  I was both honored and humbled by the outpouring of good wishes, prayer and support, particularly in these trying times. It was also a much-needed and fun break in the midst of it all.

St. Christopher was also blessed by the willing hands and hearts of over 30 volunteers from St. Philip’s Church that gave their Saturday on October 10 to help in grounds maintenance. We welcome volunteer efforts such as this, with the much diminished staff of St. Christopher still sorely limited to address much of the needed grounds work on our expansive campus. I pray the example set by this group might inspire similar efforts throughout the Diocese.  We welcome, and need your help!

In this continuing new normal of living with COVID-19 in our midst, and remaining ever vigilant in all of the needed safeguards, I remain ever hopeful that by the grace of God, St. Christopher will overcome all obstacles and prevail in its ministry of service to you and others. Thank you for your continued prayers and your participation in the many ways that bless this ministry.

Faithfully,

Thank you, St. Philip's!

On Saturday, October 10, over 35 volunteers from St. Philip’s Church, Charleston, helped with grounds maintenance needs throughout the St. Christopher Campus.  They trimmed trees, mowed lawns, used weed eaters, pulled weeds, cleared cob webs, hauled debris, shoveled sand and more. We welcome other groups and individuals following their example as help is still needed. If you can help, call Steve Zack at ‭843.768.0429.

2021 PGA Championship

PGA Championship

A generous benefactor has given St. Christopher four “Wanamaker Club” tickets for the 2021 PGA Championship to be hosted on Kiawah Island.  He is the same benefactor that did this for the 2012 PGA to launch our fundraising efforts for the restoration of the Chapel of the Palms.  These four premier ticket packages will be paired with the use of the Historic Bishop’s Cottage and offered in a drawing for contributions of $1000.  The value of this package is $10,000.  The drawing is planned for December 1st, and will not be offered to any more than 100 entries in hopes of raising $100,000 on behalf of St. Christopher.

The Palms Project

Order Your Copy Today!

THE PALMS PROJECT is an album of worship songs we (former camp staff) chose to reflect the last decade of worship at St. Christopher. It was recorded in the Chapel of the Palms in hopes of capturing the sonic qualities that make us all feel so at home. Sadly, there was not a room full of campers to join in that worship and the chapel yearned for their chorus. We worked hard with the time and resources available. We hope you can find joy and peace in this album!

All proceeds benefit the ministries of St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center.
