ALL Warren Public Library locations are OPEN with the following restrictions:

 - Patrons must wear a mask while in the library.
 - Patrons entering the library must fill out a health screening questionnaire and have their temperature taken by staff.  Patrons with a temperature of 100.4 F or higher must leave the library immediately.
 - Computer usage is limited to one 90 minute session per day.
 - Patron library visit is limited to 90 minutes per day for computer access, reference, and checkout of materials.
 - Social distancing will be enforced.  Patrons are required to remain at least 6 feet apart.
 - All of our library buildings have occupancy limits.  Please be patient with us if we ask you to wait to enter.

 

Curbside Pickup is Available at the Civic Center Library only

The Warren Public Library is offering curbside pickup for physical library materials at the Civic Center Library only.

Curbside pickup hours are:

Fridays
9 am - 4:30 pm

Please call the library at 586.751.0770 at least one hour before you arrive so we can have your materials ready for you.

When you arrive at the library, please go to the designated area on the south side of the library near the butterfly garden.  There are signs directing you to our curbside pickup area.  Call to let us know you are here for pickup and we will bring your items to you.  You will need to show your driver's license or library card.

The holidays are prime baking season.  It's time to make the most of pumpkins, cranberries, pecans, spices, and all of our favorite ingredients.  Whether you are baking for a crowd or crafting homemade gifts, join us to learn how to make healthier, more delicious versions of the classics, like apple pie, pumpkin bread, and customized cornbread.  We will talk about techniques, ingredients, and ways to become a more confident baker.  Get your oven ready.  Registration is required with an email address.  Please call 586.751.0770 to register.  This is a Zoom event.  Details will be emailed to those who are registered.


DIY Winter-Themed Gift Jars - Take and Make Craft

There are so many mason jar gift ideas out there.  Which should you choose for your occasion?  Create a winter-themed topped jar that is perfect for the holiday season.  A hot glue gun is needed to complete this craft.  Please call 586.751.0770 to arrange for pickup.  Available while supplies last.

School Supplies Catapults - Virtual Program (Zoom Event)

Supplies will be available at the checkout desk from November 16-19.

Tweens and teens can pick up a craft kit to make your own mini catapult out of school supplies.  Register with an email address for the November 19th Zoom meet up to get a walk through creating your catapult and challenge other tweens and teens to see whose catapult can launch marshmallows the farthest.  Zoom meet up information will be emailed out on November 18.  Please do not share your Zoom password.  If you are unable to pick up the craft supplies, you can still follow along with the following items:  wooden ruler or paint stirrer stick, 9 pencils, a thick rubber band, a small cup, duct tape, and marshmallows.  Catapult design from "Rubber Band Engineer" copyright 2016 Lance Akiyama.

Alphabet Shakeup - Virtual Program (Zoom Event)

Join us for a story, a song, and other fun stuff as we shake up our usual storytime with a different letter each week.  The fall session will feature the letters A to M.
Registration is required which includes your email address.  Parents registering will receive an email link to a Zoom meeting.  If you cannot attend the Zoom meeting, a recorded version will be available on the library's Facebook page.  Families who register can pick up an egg shaker and scarf to use at each class.  Craft and letter worksheets will be available to pick up every week at the Civic Center Library.  To register, please call 586.751.0770.

Mobile Hotspots Available For Checkout
 
Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspots are available for checkout at ALL Warren Public Library branches FREE OF CHARGE.  With this easy to use device you can connect your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other Wi-Fi enabled device and have Internet connectivity wherever you are.  Mobile Hotspots may be checked out to Warren residents ages 18 years or older for 7 days.  A valid Warren library card and current identification such as a driver's license or Michigan state i.d. are required at checkout.  Stop by one of our libraries today and ask about this exciting service.

Virtual Library Cards
 
Warren residents who cannot come into our libraries to get a library card can still use some of our popular electronic resources by applying for a virtual library card.  This card will allow temporary access to some of our eResources including:  OverDrive, Freegal, RBdigital, and databases.  To get full access to all library materials (including Hoopla and the ability to check out physical items) you will need to stop by the circulation desk at any Warren Public Library location and fill out an application.  To get a virtual library card, click

Download music using Freegal

Using Freegal, you can download and keep music directly from the library.  You can also stream music.  Freegal allows you to download up to 5 songs per week.  These songs are in the MP3 format, are yours to keep, and can be used on a variety of devices.  Additionally, you can stream up to 3 hours of music per day.  All it takes is a valid Warren Public Library card to use Freegal.  Click here to go to our Freegal page.​

Ancestry Library Edition - Remote Access Available through December 31
This genealogical database is used by many to look up census records from 1790-1940 , draft cards, ship passenger lists, and much more.  This database was only available for in-library use, but due to the unprecedented shut down of libraries across the state, Ancestry is offering remote access to Warren Public Library cardholders for a limited time. Follow the steps below to access Ancestry Library Edition from home.
1. Visit our online library catalog by using the
 Library Catalog link or using the My Account login box from our website.
2. When you visit our catalog, check the upper-right portion of the screen. If logged in, you will see your name. If not, click Log In.
3. After logging in, the Ancestry link will be revealed. Click the Ancestry – Remote Access Link at the top of the left-hand box to access Ancestry Library Edition.

Comprehensive resource for automotive diagnostic and repair information.

Consumer Reports.org

Pronunciator - Language Learning Database
With Pronunciator, you can learn over 80 languages as well as study English (ESL) for 50 languages.  It features speech recognition, scored quizzes, a virtual coach, downloadable MP3s, and virtual conversations.  You can log into this database at home using your Warren Public Library card.  To access Pronunciator, click here.

Friends

Due to the COVID-19 safety recommendations all events are postponed until further notice.








The Friends are happy to announce that they have reopened their bookstore located at 5961 Beebe Street (north of 13 Mile Road and East of Mound)  with the following restrictions:
1.  Everyone must wear a face mask while in the store (gloves are optional).
2.  Floor space is limited, so only 6 guests will be allowed in at one time.
3.  Everyone is asked to respect each other by staying at least 6 feet apart.
Items for sale include used hardbound and paperback books, CDs, videos, etc. for all ages.  Proceeds benefit the Warren Public Library.

The Friends Kids Club
If you are between the ages of 0 - 13 you can join the Friends of the Warren Public Library for just $1.00 per year. Once you turn in your completed application along with your $1.00, you will be given a special Kids Club card. Bring this card with you whenever you visit the bookstore and you will get up to 12 free children's books a year.  To join, simply click 
here to print the membership form, fill it out and turn it in at the book store or any of our library branches.

You can register your Kroger card and a portion of your purchases will be donated to the Friends of the Warren Public Library.  Your card must be renewed every year.  If you have not done so, please log into your account and renew your commitment.  To register your card, please do the following:
1.  Go to

2. Click on the tab labeled community.
3. In the drop box, click on community rewards.
4. If you are doing this for the first time, register your card with the program and pick Friends of the Warren Public Library.
5. If you are renewing your commitment, go to account summary.
6. Here you can edit any of your personal information, but be sure to go all the way down to your Organization.
7. It is here that you re-write Friends of the Warren Public Library.
8. The organization number should also show:  91075.
