Father Colopy, our new associate priest, arrives this week
Hello Church. I am Fr. Jim Colopy and will be worshipping with you all very soon. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am from Danville, Ohio. My home parish is St. Luke which is celebrating its 200th anniversary, much like you have been doing here at St. Mary of the Assumption parish. I am the eldest of seven children. And they are oldest to youngest: Marty Colopy, Jennifer Okimura, Andrew Colopy, Stephanie Colopy, Stacie Aman, and Leah Colopy. Our parents are Judy, and Jim Sr. who died this past March 16, the day everything shut down from the CoVID-19 pandemic.

I received my undergraduate degree from Ohio Dominican University and went to St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Ill. I have known Fr. Craig for many years.  We met in 1979.  He is a good friend.  You’re blessed to have him as your pastor.

I look forward to meeting you.  I am thrilled to be with you all soon.

God bless you all. And keep you safe.

Sincerely in Jesus Christ,
Fr. Jim Colopy

All Souls Mass - Monday, 2 November at 7 pm
As we more intently remember and intercede for our loved ones and all who have died this month of November, Mass will be offered for All Souls on Monday, 2 November at 7 pm, especially for those in our parish who have died over the past year.

Almighty God and Father,
by the mystery of the cross,
you have made us strong;
by the sacrament of the resurrection
you have sealed us as your own.
Look kindly upon your servants,
now freed from the bonds of mortality,
and count them among your saints in heaven.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

News from Saint Mary School
We are quickly approaching the end of the 1st quarter of school! While very little is the same this year, our dedicated teachers remain steadfast in their commitment to providing the best in Catholic education to our students. Our students seem happy to be back in class, even with all the necessary Covid restrictions.

Our third grade was able to make their first Communion a couple of weeks ago. They had to wait for this very special day, but that made the reception all the more joyous!  We welcome them to the Table of the Lord and are excited they will now be able to participate with us in receiving the Eucharist at our weekly school Masses.

As humans, and Americans, we are not very good at patience. We want it our way and we want it now. Covid has forced everyone to slow down, appreciate our blessings, and really think about how our actions may affect others. We have all been taught this lesson, now we are learning how these lessons from the Gospel are lived.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share and live these Gospel values with your children every day.

Diocese of Columbus seeks input from inactive Catholics
The Diocese of Columbus is exploring new ways of evangelization. As part of this effort, information is being sought from those who have moved away from the faith -- why they no longer participate actively in the Church or why they may no longer consider themselves Catholic.

Many people may think they know or can assume the reasons for this, but there is great value in hearing estranged brothers and sisters’ concerns firsthand. To assist in this task, active Catholics are encouraged to reach out to inactive Church members and ask them to participate in a brief survey.

Participants may be a loved one, a child who no longer attends, a sibling who moved away, a friend, an acquaintance – anyone not currently active in the Church.
Help Them Be Heard Survey for Inactive Catholics

The Melchizedek Project is a fraternal spiritual discernment group that helps high school and college-aged men consider a vocation to the Priesthood. We meet the first Thursday of the month following the 6:00 PM Mass at St. Bernadette, for supper and time for discussion until 8:00 PM. The next meeting will be Thursday, November 5. Come to the church for Mass, then to the Mary Good Center office building behind the church at St. Bernadette, 1343 Wheeling Road, Lancaster. Please call (740) 654-1893 or email father tomson@me.com to RSVP. The Melchizedek Project is offered in coordination with the Office of Vocations for the Diocese of Columbus and the Fairfield-Hocking Deanery.
